What happens to Dr. Monica Beltran in Grey's Anatomy Season 22? Character's fate, revealed

Right when Grey's Anatomy Season 22 was announced, it was expected that a major character would be killed off. At the beginning of the first episode, we see how the explosion impacted the patients and the medical staff of the hospital. Everyone is panicking.

However, in the operating theatre of Dylan, Dr. Monica Beltran’s situation is in a further critical state. Right after the explosion, Dr. Monica got stuck under the heavy lighting equipment in the operating room. Her fate was already hanging by a thread.

The situation inside the hospital after the explosion gets more and more complicated with each passing minute. After the explosion, Jules finds out Dr. Monica is stuck under the light rig. She tries to call for help. However, it can be understood that help would not arrive soon. She then tries to pull the light equipment by herself; however, she could not move it even an inch. The light rig was too heavy for her to help Dr. Monica out of the situation.

Dr. Monica understood that her situation could not be helped unless the equipment was moved. It cannot be denied that being stuck in such a dangerous manner would undoubtedly create fear in one's mind. However, Monica's doctor's instinct takes over in this situation.

Her focus shifts to saving her patient instead of herself. She could not physically operate on the patient herself. She understood that the six-year-old patient’s situation was worsening with each passing moment. He needed immediate treatment.

They would not be able to save his life if they delayed any further. So, Dr. Monica decided to help Jules through the whole procedure. So, even though her life was hanging by a thread, she tried to help her patient survive. She understood that her situation could not be changed.

She accepted her fate with bravery. In the end, Jules is able to successfully bring the patient out of danger with the help of Dr. Monica’s constant instructions. Without her instructions, Jules would not have been able to save the child. The patient survives. Monica is successful in keeping the patient healthy. However, her fate changes. Her injuries were too serious.

She could not survive. In the end, she passed away on the floor. The firefighters arrive there, but they are too late. However, Jules informs them that Monica is no more. She remains committed to her job till the very end of her life. Her selfless act resonates deeply throughout this episode.

The whole scene is truly a tear-jerker. This is especially because of Natalie Morales’ performance. She brings out the subtle nuances in Monica’s character, making her last moment memorable and impactful in Grey's Anatomy.

Monica’s death is a truly emotionally heavy moment in Grey's Anatomy. Monica joined the other doctors in the 20th Season. She quickly became a fan favorite character with her distinct personality. Though with a cast so huge, it is expected that characters would be dying so that new characters can join and the storyline can remain fresh, it is still very disheartening to see Monica’s death.

Throughout the time she was in the series, the storyline brought a distinct level of uniqueness. Now, after her death, Jules will undoubtedly be impacted significantly. Her death signifies the unpredictability of life. The doctors will now have to face a challenging time in the upcoming episodes of Grey's Anatomy.
