What happens to Eryn in Task Episode 5? Character's fate revealed

HBO's latest crime drama series Task, starring Mark Ruffalo and Tom Phelphrey, premiered on September 7, 2025. Created by Brad Ingelsby, the series explores the life of a former priest turned Philadelphia-based FBI agent, Tom Brandis, who heads a task force. Along with his team, which consists of Anthony, Aleah, and Lizzie, Brandis is set to reduce the crime rate in the suburb by investigating a series of violent robberies.

Leading the robberies is a garbage collector named Robbie Prendergrast, portrayed by Tom Pelphrey. He spends his nights robbing local drug dealers, and his leading target is the Dark Hearts, a drug-selling biker gang led by Perry. Jayson is a son-like figure to Perry and a prominent member of Dark Hearts.

Eryn (Magarita Levieva) is Jayson's wife, and while you might think that by default she must be loyal to the Dark Hearts, in reality, she's a mole. As shown in Task Episode 3, she helps Robbie and Cliff with information about the trap houses. So what exactly are Eryn's motives? She had an affair with Robbie's brother, Billy, who was killed by Jayson, and now all she wants is revenge. Task Episode 5 delivers one of the season's most devastating and emotional turns, the death of Eryn. Her storyline, which was a slow-burning mix of loyalty, fear, and secrecy, comes to a shocking end.

Task Episode 5: What happens to Eryn?

Eryn has been living on borrowed time since Perry began suspecting a mole within the operation. Her connection to Robbie made her a target, even though her intentions were not malicious. When the episode opens, Eryn appears increasingly paranoid. She notices Perry's strange behaviour and spots blood on Jasyson's vest and senses something might have happened to Cliff.

Robbie meets her one last time, and together they piece a puzzle that Jayson has been posing as Ray and is responsible for Cliff's murder. Robbie leaves to handle his next move, unaware that this meeting was about to seal Eryn's fate. Moments later, Perry tracks her down, convinced she's the leak behind all their troubles. What follows is a tense chase sequence that ends near a quiet lakeside. While Eryn tries to run, Perry corners her near the lake. Their confrontation spirals out of control. He holds her down in the water, and in a flash, he drowns her.

It's clearly not a planned killing, and Perry's reaction to it makes it clear. The horror of what he has done hits him instantly. He knows Jayson loved Eryn and that her death will lead to chaos.

He hides her body in the nearby woods before Jayson arrives. His wife notices the sudden change in his behaviour and the visible injuries. Perry's fear isn't just about getting caught but about what Jayson might do when he finds out.

What does Eryn's death mean for Task?

Eryn's death in Task Episode 5 changes everything. Her disappearance leaves a void that ripples through every storyline, especially that of Robbie's and Jayson's. Eryn was the emotional anchor, one of the very few who saw humanity beneath all the violence. For Jayson, it's a personal loss, and for Robbie, it's another loss in a life already full of guilt and betrayal.

Speaking to Variety, Jamie McShane, who plays Perry Dorazo in Task, revealed,

"Perry had no intention of killing Eryn. He tells her that he gave her a clean way out of her situation, and now they have to handle it differently. When he tells her to go, he’s telling her that he’s taking her back to confess to Jayson, who will find his own way to deal with her."
