What happens in The Rookie Season 4 Episode 12? Plot details, explored

ABC’s The Rookie, Season 4 Episode 12, titled The Knock, takes the audience through a shocking case that had the investigation team scrambling for answers. When a severed hand washes ashore, the officers trace it to a tech extremist called Chester Frey. Meanwhile, the officers are also seen navigating through their own personal challenges, including John Nolan, who has now taken on a new role in the force.

What happens in The Rookie Season 4 Episode 12?

Bradford and Chen are patrolling when they receive a call about a severed hand that has washed up on the beach. Later, when McGrady is filling out the paperwork for it at the station, she asks Bradford to go for dinner. And though he initially shows reluctance in the beginning, he eventually agrees.

Meanwhile, Nolan, in this episode of The Rookie, is getting all the attention after becoming the union delegate. But Briggs keeps his enthusiasm in check by telling him to appreciate the moment and not take it too seriously. But Nolan wants to be proactive and starts taking the initiative to bring in change. Briggs is unhappy and threatens to get him sacked.

Bradford is also investigating a theft case at the biotechnological company called ManMade Labs, but he is hardly able to get any substantial information. Harper, who is newly pregnant, seems to be perplexed with her swaying emotions, surprising everyone around her.

When Nolan and Harper get called to the hospital, they appear puzzled at first. They learn that the hospital has the body of a person who bled out after the person’s arm was cut off.

Later in The Rookie Season 4 Episode 12, Lopez brings in ManMade Labs’ CEO and his lawyer for interrogation. It is revealed that the person whose hand was cut off was an employee called Mark. The owner also shares that they had fired one employee called Chester, who wanted to develop a technology, but they refused.

Chester was doing off-site experiments that the company did not approve of. He even reached out to the owner about a breakthrough, but was told never to contact the lab again. Lopez is suspicious of the person and asks Harper and Nolan to look into him.

When Chen and Bradford reach Chester’s house, they find a severed arm on the table, knocking. In the freezer, they find eight more limbs. But Chester is nowhere to be found.

The episode of The Rookie, meanwhile, introduces the audience to Romeo, an officer from Italy, who comes to the station to meet Grey. He is looking into a diamond burglary and murder case. He suspects that the culprit, Kai, will run away to South America. Grey volunteers to work with him. They are both in a garage when Grey’s acquaintance, called Flex, arrives. After seeing a photo of the fugitive, Flex agrees to help.

But things take a turn when they finally find the suspect, and Romeo starts shooting at Kai and lies that he had a gun as well. Grey gets skeptical about Romeo’s true motive. When he contacted the Rome police, he learns that Romeo is being investigated for misconduct. He discreetly informs Nolan and Harper to keep a lookout for the suspect as he decides to keep Romeo in check, in the meantime.

Later in The Rookie episode, Bradford and Chen learn that Chester was getting the arms from the morgue, and as soon as they arrive at the location, they find a dead security guard and blood everywhere. They follow some voices, using the body cam, and learn that Chester has hostages. They switch off the lights in a sudden move and take hold of Chester.

Bradford invites Chen and another officer when McGrady shares that she has extra tickets. At the dinner, Bradford and Chen engage in laughter-filled chat, leaving the others frustrated. Later, they realize their mistake and agree to go on individual dates.

The Rookie episode also had another plot in play. Nolan calls Grey and Romeo to tell them that he found the suspect. When they arrive at the place, they can hear singing in the shower. Romeo goes in without waiting and shoots. But it turns out that there was no one, and it was just a voice recorder.

As it would be, Nolan and Harper had taken Kai into custody already. He had confessed to working with Romeo in Italy. Romeo was worried that his secrets would be revealed, so he chased after him. Romeo is finally arrested.
