Sirens doesn’t hold your hand and explain itself. Instead, it hints and then disappears before you can even decode what it's trying to tell you. What you expect to happen is probably not going to happen. And that keeps some of us thrilled throughout the show.
But what really is the point of Sirens? Is it about sisterhood, grief, s*xuality, freedom, guilt? Or is it just a beachy watch full of floral colors? The show gives us everything except a clear answer. And that’s exactly why Reddit is buzzing.
Many fans are split. Some say Sirens is all about the power and psyche of women. Others get right into the Greek mythology connection. Then there’s the cult angle.
A bunch of Redditors were actually disappointed when the whole “cult” thing turned out to be a red herring. With so many layers floating around, it's hard to get a straight answer.
All we can really do is dig into those layers and dissect them. And that naturally brings several opinions to the table. And that's exactly what Reddit is for.
So, let’s get straight into what the Redditors have to say.
Sirens: Redditors are divided on the point of the show, and that’s kind of the point

There’s been no shortage of chatter about Sirens on Reddit, even long after its finale. With its recent Emmy nominations, the show has returned to the spotlight. And Reddit makes it clear that fans are divided on what the show is really about.
Some feel the show was all style and no substance. Others see Sirens as a symbolic portrayal of trauma, memory, and the stories we tell ourselves to cope.
One Redditor, Practical-Test5702, put it bluntly:
"They made it seem like there was this big mystery and there wasn’t one."
That’s a pretty common take among viewers. We all went in expecting a central mystery with big reveals, only to be met with layered ambiguity and multiple themes floating around.
Another viewer, Inner-Peak-9742, agreed, saying:
"The writer and director made it look like there is a mystery to be solved to make us watch it till the end..but there's nothing. The music, the "hallucinations effect" were so irrelevant."
However, some fans argue that it's not fair. Sirens is, according to them, an exploration of trauma, longing, and power dynamics in a dreamy but disorienting island setting.

"It was such a good show! But i wanted some secret like a crazy cult or they had secret powers or used secret potions she made on the island or soooooomething, anything!"
The early episodes tease just that. Michaela Kell comes across as the leader of something that's not quite normal. Devon’s initial impression of Michaela seems cult-like with the forest meetings and the way everyone listens to her like she’s a deity. But Sirens later reveals that there is no cult.

"I loved how they conveyed what trauma can look like and how different trauma looks in every person. A lot of people won’t understand. The “twist” a lot of people want to look for are the situations we land ourselves in despite of — or in spite of — our past traumas. Simone was so painfully hurt by Kiki when Kiki refused to listen and she shut her down right away, and it wasn’t until the breakup in the kitchen is when she realized they’d both been played this entire time. Kevin Bacon is the covert narcissist holding the marionette strings to fuel the emotional distress of his household to get what he wants. Trauma can be a very good manipulative tool to someone who likes control."
There's a scene where Devon is smoking with Peter Kell, and he casually mentions how strange dreams haunt him on the island. Devon doesn’t buy it. But not long after, she’s in her own haze. It’s weird and completely disconnected from reality. That also makes the show pretty intriguing.
A Redditor, Independent-Sir-8174, expressed their love for the show by explaining:
"That’s the point. The show made it seem like there was this big mystery but in reality it was about two sisters coping with childhood trauma as adults. Devon was convinced Simone was in a cult because that’s what Devon wanted to believe...She shows up at cliff house, FURIOUS that her little sister won’t talk to her. She can’t fathom that the girl she basically raised is moving on with her life in order to cope with her own trauma. When she sees everything at cliff house, she wants to… no she NEEDS to believe that Simone is suffering. That Simone needs to be saved... Devon feels like Michaela is taking her sister away. She’s still a little girl inside and she just wants to love and be loved. The scene in the bathroom when Michaela talks to Devon is eerie because Devon has NEVER been spoken to like that. Devon has NEVER been seen so clearly before. We are seeing the world through the eyes of two girls who grew up traumatically... I thought this show was brilliant. I LOVE that it makes the viewer think just as dementedly as the people in the show itself... Not everything has to be a culty murder mystery magic crazy show. Some things just seem that way in order to mask the truth."
The layers are endless. Sirens doesn’t spoon feed anything. It asks viewers to sit with discomfort, ambiguity, and symbolism. That might frustrate some but for others, that’s the very thrill of watching it.
