Amazon Prime Video's police procedural, On Call, produced by Wolf Entertainment was released on January 9, 2025.
Famous for his One Chicago franchise and other crime procedurals like Law & Order and FBI, this is Dick Wolf's first ever series to be released in half-hour episode formats. The show follows 'Long Beach Police Department veteran training officer Traci Harmon and her rookie partner Alex Diaz as they respond to emergency calls on the streets of Long Beach, California'.
On Call cast includes Troian Bellisario, Brandon Larracuente, and Eriq LaSalle in titular roles. American actress Lori Loughlin plays the role of Lieutenant Bishop, Traci's supervisor and a high-ranking police officer on the show.
More on Lori Loughlin's character in On Call in our story.
Lori Loughlin plays Lieutenant Bishop in Prime Video's On Call
Loughlin's character, Lieutenant Bishop is Traci Harmon's supervisor. She is someone who has always supported Traci, especially after knowing about her past. After Traci made her life's mission to put her previous mentee's killer, behind bars, Bishop was the one who she confided in.
Bishop is a no-nonsense police officer who keeps her job above everything else. While she appears to be a supportive character throughout On Call Season 1, her actions in the finale lead to a change in her relationship with Traci.
While Traci thought that her transfer request was denied by Lasman, she learned that Bishop did that. Not only did she feel betrayed by Bishop's act but this put her career in a difficult spot.
But Bishop justifies her decision of denying Traci's transfer request in On Call, as she used unethical means to catch her mentee's killer. Bishop's decision in the finale proves that her character puts her job and duty toward law enforcement above everything else.
Being a higher-up, Bishop could have easily concealed Traci's unethical methods and granted her request, but she chose her duty above camaraderie with Traci and remained truthful till the end.
How was Lori Loughlin's experience working in On Call?
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Loughlin revealed how she prepared for the role of Bishop in On Call, as the makers of the show wanted her to get rid of her highlights, complying to which she donned jet black pulled-back hair with a no makeup look.
In the interview, she also discussed how working in On Call has transformed her:
“It was really exciting and gave me a whole new appreciation for law enforcement...I didn’t know I had it in me to be that badass,”
While the actress has experience working on crime procedurals before, this was her first time playing a police officer. She discussed her experience in an interview with ScreenRant:
''I think On Call was different. This is a very different character that I'm playing this time around. I was so grateful and thankful to get the opportunity, thankful to everyone at Dick Wolf for supporting me, for Eriq bringing me on board.''
She added:
''He [Eriq] really gave me wonderful directing advice and if I was timid at all, he pushed me a little further and so it really helped develop the whole character for me to drop into her.''
The show is now available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
