High Potential Season 2 was confirmed in January 2025 and will be released on ABC on September 16, 2025. The show follows Morgan Gillory (played by Kaitlin Olson), who used to work as a cleaning lady at the LAPD, but got offered the job of a civilian consultant at the department's Major Crimes Division due to her high IQ of 160. Morgan has been helping the LAPD solve crimes with her partner, Detective Adam Karadec (played by Daniel Sunjata), but one thing she is unable to solve is the mystery of her first husband, Roman's disappearance.

Variety reported in July 2025 that Mekhi Phifer is cast in a recurring role for High Potential Season 2. However, which character he will be playing is yet to be revealed. The show's story and season one's cliffhanger highly suggest that Mekhi Phifer might be playing Ramon in High Potential Season 2.

Theory about Mekhi Phifer in High Potential Season 2

The last episode of High Potential season one ended with an episode that revolved around a criminal who abducted members of a grief therapy group, including Oz. Instead of asking for a ransom, he taunted the LAPD and wanted the department to play games with him. During this time, Conforth resurfaced and insisted he would only cooperate with Morgan, refusing to involve the police.

Morgan agreed, though Karadec pushed to speak with him instead. Conforth admitted that he once worked under Lyla, a late FBI agent who had Roman work as her informant. While shopping with her children, Morgan unknowingly crossed paths with the kidnapper, not realizing his real identity. Later, she found his warning at home, just before Karadec called her, claiming he knew where Roman was.

Roman is Morgan's ex-husband and her daughter, Ava's father. He disappeared fifteen years before the beginning of the show's events, when he went to buy diapers for Ava. But for all these years, Morgan was adamant that Roman wouldn't just leave them, and something must have happened to him.

Roman is an important character in High Potential, but we've yet to meet him. Since there's no confirmation about which character he will be playing, and season one's cliffhanger suggested that Morgan might just find Ramon, Mekhi Phifer, in High Potential, as Ramon is a high possibility.

Phifer isn't the only new addition to High Potential Season 2. Steve Howey is also joining the show in the lead role. However, as Deadline reported, Howey will be playing Jesse Wagner, the new captain of the LAPD precinct. David Giuntoli was revealed to be the kidnapper who abducted people from the grief therapy group. While his identity is still a secret, we can expect Giuntoli to return in season two.

Thus, Phifer is the only one whose role is yet to be revealed. Besides, if he were to play Ramon, the show would keep it under wraps, and that is exactly what they seem to be doing. However, nothing has been confirmed by the show or ABC; thus, at this point in time, it is just a theory that Mekhi Phifer might be playing Ramon in High Potential Season 2.

Other members of the High Potential cast include Javicia Leslie as Daphne Forrester, Deniz Akdeniz as Lev Özdil, Amirah J as Ava Gillory, Matthew Lamb as Elliot Radovic, Judy Reyes as Selena Soto, Taran Killam as Ludo Radovic, and Garret Dillahunt as Lieutenant Melon.

High Potential Season 2 will premiere on ABC on September 16, 2025. Season one of the show is streaming on Hulu.
