The Boys, the Amazon Prime series, gives us a different kind of superheroes. Instead of portraying noble heroes saving the world, it shows a darker reality where superheroes are controlled by a massive company called Vought International. These heroes, known as Supes, often misuse their powers and are only concerned about themselves. Supes are more celebrities than heroes.
One of the few Supes in The Boys who truly wants to help people is Starlight. Her real name is Annie January, and she joins The Seven, Vought’s elite superhero team, in the first season. At first, she believes she’s finally living her dream. But over time, she realizes the world of superheroes is filled with lies and corruption.
Starlight is portrayed by actress Erin Moriarty, who brings both warmth and rawness to the role. As the show progresses, Starlight becomes one of the few characters fighting to expose Vought’s secrets and stand up for justice.

Starlight's powers and abilities in The Boys
In The Boys, Starlight’s main power is the ability to generate and manipulate light. Her body absorbs electrical energy from her surroundings, like streetlights, power outlets, or overhead wires, and converts it into strong flashes of light. The more electricity she absorbs, the more powerful her blasts become. When fully charged, she can release bursts strong enough to knock down opponents or completely destroy objects in her path.
This power of Starlight has many uses. In close combat, she can blind or stun her opponents, giving her time to strike or escape. She also uses her light as a source of light, especially in dark areas. While her abilities are most effective when she’s near a power source, she has proved that even a low charge can be useful.
Beyond her light abilities, Starlight also has superhuman strength. While she is not as powerful as some of the other Supes in The Boys, like Homelander or Queen Maeve, she’s significantly stronger than a normal human. She has been shown throwing grown men across rooms, breaking down steel doors, and fighting trained fighters on her own.
Starlight also has enhanced durability. She can take punches, survive falls, and endure being struck by weapons that would seriously injure or kill a normal person. In one scene, she survives a direct gunshot with only minor injuries, proving that her body is far tougher than it looks.
A much more subtle power of Starlight is her emotional strength. Though not a “superpower,” her sense of morality sets her apart in The Boys. While others are motivated by fame or fear and easily give in to corrupt practices, Starlight consistently chooses to speak up, even when it puts her life at risk.
In The Boys, Starlight stands for real heroism. Her physical and superhero powers, along with her unshakable integrity, make her the fan-favorite character she is. You can check out Starlight in her full power in the first four seasons of The Boys, streaming on Prime Video.
