Peacemaker Season 2 recently premiered with its first episode on HBO Max, and it has wasted no time in establishing the canon DC Universe events, much like the Superman film a few months ago.

While Season 2 does not alter many events from Season 1, it does retcon the ending of the first season to fit into the revamped DC Universe under James Gunn and Peter Safran.

Season 2 continues the canon that has been established and set up in Superman, and this connection is established with the help of a defining incident in the film, A.R.G.U.S., and the new head of the organization, who has a personal vendetta against Peacemaker.

Here's how 'The Luthor Incident' referenced in Peacemaker Season 2 sets up the continuing canon of the DC Universe and brings the anti-hero to the organization's notice, especially the new director of ARGUS.

'The Luthor Incident' referred to in Peacemaker Season 2 is a major bridge between Peacemaker Season 2 and Superman. In Superman, Lex Luthor is the Man of Steel's archnemesis, hell-bent on destroying him and his reputation. In the film, he created a pocket universe where he would take prisoners from this universe.

In his undertaking to destroy Superman, he pushed the portal to this universe so far beyond its original capacity that he ended up creating an interdimensional rift, which destroyed part of Metropolis until Mister Terrific stepped in to stop it. ARGUS was thrown into a disarrayed frenzy after this incident.

This incident, referred to as 'The Luthor Incident,' is what the organization is using all its means to avoid in the latest DCU endeavor with Peacemaker Season 2.

While Peacemaker Season 2 started out with establishing the DC Universe canon elements, such as the entry of the Justice Gang instead of the Justice League at the end of the events in Season 1, and the members of the Justice Gang whom Peacemaker interviews.

However, soon enough, the major plot of the season is established with Chris' Peacemaker discovering an interdimensional travel machine called the Quantum Unfolding Chamber, created by his evil father (whom he killed in Season 1). John Cena's Chris, looking for Eagly, ends up entering another dimension through the QUC, where he discovers a whole other world, one where he is part of The Top Trio, a heroes group, with his father and brother (both of whom are dead in his universe).

Even though he returns without being noticed by the Peacemaker of that universe on his first trip, he isn't as lucky the second time around. The second time around, this Peacemaker, instead of believing in interdimensional travel, is convinced that Chris is a shapeshifter of sorts and attacks him. Chris ends up killing the variant inside the QUC, leading to interdimensional chaos.

ARGUS, in hopes of avoiding another incident like 'The Luthor Incident' in Superman, has been tracking similar energy and discovered Peacemaker's escapades. Additionally, Rick Flag Sr., the new director of the organization, has a special bone to pick with Chris' Peacemaker, as he killed his son in Season 1.

Therefore, Rick Flag Sr. and ARGUS are on constant lookout for Peacemaker to screw up or cause any chaos to take him in under the guise of preventing interdimensional mayhem.
