The eighth episode of The Summer I Turned Pretty has been released and taken the internet by storm. It is not just because of a drastic change that happens in Jeremiah and Belly’s lives. It is also because of some past incidents that come to light. If you haven't watched the eighth episode of the third season yet, then please tread with caution. Belly and Conrad have now called off the wedding.
However, the reason is not because of Jeremiah’s cheating but because of Belly’s residual feelings for Conrad. After the wedding is called off, we see Steven consoling Jeremiah, and Laurel consoling her daughter.
This suggests that Steven and Laurel are yet unaware of Jeremiah’s cheating scandal. So what does the book reveal about Steven and Laurel’s thoughts on Jeremiah’s cheating?
Do Steven and Laurel find out about Jeremiah’s cheating scandal in The Summer I Turned Pretty books?
The answer is no, they do not find out. Unlike the series, the books have quite a distinct wavelength of showing Steven’s character. In the books, Steven does not remain the primary focus, unlike the series.
In The Summer I Turned Pretty books, Steven is largely unaware of Jeremiah’s cheating scandal. There were moments during the bachelorette party when Steven almost found out about Jeremiah’s fling with Lacie Barone, but even till the end, he remains unaware.
Laurel, on the other hand, would have wreaked havoc if she ever found out that Jeremiah cheated on Belly. Even in The Summer I Turned Pretty books, she remains unaware of the truth about Jeremiah. The only person who is aware of Jeremiah’s cheating is Conrad. When Belly found out about Jeremiah’s cheating scandal, she confronted him. However, in the end, she decided to proceed with the wedding irrespective of that.

In The Summer I Turned Pretty series, we also see that Steven and Laurel are completely unaware of Jeremiah’s cheating scandal. Though we see that Laurel is initially against their marriage but it is not because of Jeremiah’s cheating, but rather for a completely different reason. Belly and Jeremiah are both still very young and immature to understand the difficulties life can throw at them after marriage.

Laurel understands this and tries to make Belly understand this as well. However, Belly is adamant about marrying Jeremiah, which she eventually accepts. She puts her daughter’s happiness before her own concerns. However, if she knew about Jeremiah’s cheating, then she would definitely have never let them be together.
At the end of the eighth episode, we see Belly on her way to catch a flight. How the series will turn from here on would be definitely intriguing to watch. There is truly a clear purpose in the books to keep Laurel and Steven in the dark about Jeremiah. If they knew the whole dynamic would shift.
There would be an emotional fallout. This would create a rift between the families. The story focuses on Belly’s journey of self-discovery. Her final choice is the main aspect. So it is better to keep the family confrontations away. The next episode of the series is set to release on Sept. 3 at 3 a.m. ET/12 a.m. PT on Prime Video.
