Apple TV's Ted Lasso premiered in 2020 and has since become one of the most beloved shows on the streaming service. The sports-comedy drama series follows the story of Jason Sudeikis's character, Ted Lasso, an American football coach, who becomes the coach of A.F.C. Richmond, an English Premier League soccer team.

The series, in a heartwarming and humorous tale, narrates how Ted brings out the best in the team, which was at the bottom of the ranking when he became the coach. In this heartfelt tale of the journey of failures and successes, the performance of the ensemble cast became the reason why Ted Lasso is among the fan-favorite shows. Another reason behind its success is the music that captures the perfect moments of the sports comedy and elevates those to become iconic.

Among the music is the theme song of Ted Lasso that we hear at the beginning of every episode, making it the most memorable song, as you cannot remember the show without also recalling the song. The song is an original composition from Mumford & Sons' lead vocalist, Marcus Mumford, and Tom Howe, who were brought together by Sudeikis to create the catchy tune that the fans of the show have been hooked to since 2020.

More on this in our story.

Ted Lasso theme song: All about the catchy intro composed by Marcus Mumford and Tom Howe

When recalling Ted Lasso, viewers will often remember Sudeikis's character sitting in the stadium alone with the theme song playing in the background. After three seasons, the song is still one of the best among all the needle-drops of the show, and is synonymous with the Apple TV series like it was with the Friends' theme.

The lyrics of the theme song also play well with the show's narrative. As the show deals with loss in various forms, but also on the importance of giving it all, the lyrics also speak about the same, making the song even more meaningful. The lyrics and composition are given by the British duo, Tom Howe, and Mumford & Sons' Marcus Mumford, who made sure that, in the time when viewers prefer skipping the intro, the Apple TV show does not have to go through that, and that is what happened as the theme song is among the best scores from the series.

In 2021, the duo shared with Hollywood Reporter on how they both collaborated for the song and how it was Sudeikis himself who approached Mumford with one of the "longest voice notes". Mumford also shared that they wanted to place the theme song between the US and U.K., tying the narrative just like Ted, who is an American working in England. He stated:

"We felt the theme song had to be placed somewhere right in the middle of the Atlantic, between the U.K. and the U.S., so we listened to a lot of Beatles and Gerry and the Pacemakers, and then also Creedence Clearwater Revival, as references, in saying it should feel somewhere halfway between London and Kansas, where Ted’s from."

The duo further shared how it was challenging for them to make a song for a sports drama and ensure the "balance between authenticity and energy". They surely succeeded in doing so, as the theme song perfectly conveys the theme of the Apple TV series as well.
