Taylor Sheridan's critically acclaimed and popular Western drama Yellowstone featured many brutal deaths throughout its five seasons, but none like Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley), the adopted son of John Dutton (Kevin Costner) and brother to Beth (Kelly Reilly). While Jamie initially tried to win his father's approval and prove his worth as the Dutton family son, he eventually discovered the truth about his parentage and rebelled against his adoptive family.Jamie's rebellion came to a head in the Yellowstone Season 5 premiere, where he and his girlfriend, Sarah, executed John's murder. While he was an indirect accomplice in his father's death, he cemented himself as the Duttons' enemy by going after their family ranch, an act that cost him his life at the hands of Beth.Jamie died in the Yellowstone Season 5 finale (Episode 14) titled 'Life Is a Promise,' when Beth stabbed him with a knife and avenged John Dutton's murder.More on this in our story.Beth killed Jamie in a bloody fight in the Yellowstone series finaleSheridan's Western drama concluded after John Dutton's tragic death, much to fans' disappointment, and after the controversial feud between the creator and star Kevin Costner. However, Yellowstone left its fans with a satisfactory parting gift: Jamie Dutton's brutal murder at the hands of Beth and Rip.In the series finale, Jamie publicly distanced himself from Sarah and called a press conference to announce that he will investigate her in relation to his father's death. After shifting the blame for John Dutton's death to Sarah, Jamie was hoping to get a free pass, but not on Beth's watch. She understood her brother very well and knew that he was equally responsible for his adopted father's death. Additionally, Jamie wanted to destroy the Dutton legacy by transforming the family ranch into an airport. After Jamie returned home in the Yellowstone Season 5 finale, Beth was already waiting for him with a crowbar and bear spray in hand. Jamie did not have any time to plan his escape or fight back as Beth bashed his head with a crowbar and painfully sprayed him in the eyes. Since Jamie Dutton was a tough nut to crack, he rose again, and the brother-sister duo went all in with a bloody fist fight, where Jamie finally got the upper hand. View this post on Instagram Instagram PostJamie Dutton repeatedly thrashed Beth's face until she was all bloodied and was about to lose consciousness. It almost looked like Beth would not make it out alive as Jamie started to choke her, but Rip made a grand entry and saved his wife.Rip turned the tables in the series finale and thrashed Jamie on the kitchen counter. He was about to finish him until Beth intervened and stabbed a knife in Jamie's chest, finally killing him in the process. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Christina Voros discussed this final bloody fight in the Yellowstone season 5 finale, calling it 'the fight to end all fights'. With Jamie's death, Beth not only avenged her father's death but also avenged all the wrongdoings done by Jamie as her brother. Voros said:''There was no way that [Beth and Jamie's relationship] was ever not going to end in some kind of tragedy. They earned it because they are fairly equal adversaries. If you knew who was going to win going into that fight, it wouldn't have been interesting, and it wouldn't have been worthy of all the effort that has gone into creating that rivalry over all these years.''Jamie's death is remembered as a satisfactory conclusion to the Dutton family saga in Yellowstone. While Rip took care of the body and the car, Beth made a strong case about her brother's sudden 'disappearance' in front of the detectives, so as not to leave any trail about the murder. After five whole seasons of cat-and-mouse chase, Jamie and Beth's volatile relationship finally ended in a tragedy, which was the most fitting conclusion to Yellowstone. For the latest scoops on your favorite TV shows and movies, follow Soap Central.
