While Emily in Paris Season 5 is on the way, fans can revisit some of the memorable moments and explore what the cast thinks about the hit Netflix series. This time, we're talking about Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, the actress who brings fan-adored character Sylvie to life.

Just like Emily, Sylvie has her own admirers. From her dressing style to her power in the business world, fans love everything about Sylvie. And being a main figure in the show, the actress is returning in the upcoming chapter.

In a previous interview, Leroy-Beaulieu shared that Emily in Paris isn't just a fashionable escape. Though many watch it for the glamorous outfits, Emily's quests, and her complicated love life, the actress sees it as a cake with many layers. She also said:

"[Emily in Paris is] a show about loneliness, in a way... We can have so many lovers, but then there’s some dryness to that life, which is interesting."

According to Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, the heart of the Netflix series lies in the loneliness of women. She highlights that a woman with multiple relationships can also feel empty. Just like Emily, who despite having a good job and a best friend, often ended up feeling lonely.

When it comes to Emily in Paris, the first thing that pops into fans' minds is the eye-catching Parisian backdrop, Emily's outfits and other engaging characters like Sylvie, Gabriel, and Mindy. However, what many might have ignored is how the show depicts the loneliness of a woman.

As explained earlier, Emily has often felt empty even though she had almost everything. And not just Emily, even Sylvie experienced ups and downs in her personal and professional life despite having people who adore her.

And this is what Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu highlighted in an interview. She continued:

"The freedom that women have now is bittersweet. It’s like, okay, fun, but what about depth and love?"

The actress pointed at her character and explained that Sylvie does look confident and fierce. She even has multiple affairs. However, Sylvie uses those relationships to escape the emptiness in her life. The actress feels that Sylvie’s mix of being flirtatious but emotionally guarded reveals how people often chase love to fill the emptiness they feel inside.

Exploring Sylvie's journey in Emily in Paris so far

Sylvie is introduced as the boss at Savoir, where Emily starts her work as a marketing executive. Just by looking at her, people could tell that she's a strict leader and doesn't really like newcomers, especially when they aren't French.

However, Sylvie gradually starts to understand Emily and her talent and is able to accept her. She even reminds Emily to stay fashionable and when she begins her new agency, Sylvie invites Emily to join her.

By Season 4, her agency is thriving, and her decision to trust Emily with leading the Rome branch proves how much she’s evolved as both a leader and a mentor. Sylvie's love life is as complicated as her professional life.

She was in a relationship with a married man, then broke up and started exploring new bonds. At the same time, Sylvie is a married woman who maintains a cordial bond with her husband. But what defines her in the end is freedom and independence. Sylvie remains the sharp woman she is since the first season of the Netflix series.
