It cannot be denied that TV shows such as Southland always leave a distinct impact on the viewers with the character-driven approach the series takes. The aspect of the series being a crime drama featuring the intense cases that the LAPD officers took on makes this series worth watching.

However, it was not able to cope with the intense competition it faced during its time, with numerous TV shows dropping. Hence, slowly, Southland faded away from television. However, the series is finally getting its chance to depict its capabilities through its release on Netflix.

Streaming details of Southland

Netflix is bringing back Southland on its streaming platform from January 16. It cannot be denied that being able to get easy access to rewatching this intense series on Netflix is definitely something to look forward to. After the first season of Southland, NBC dropped the series. However, TNT picked the series right up and maintained the intriguing storyline until the very end of the series.

However, after five seasons of the series, TNT decided not renew the show for another season. In a statement by TNT, it is noted that they are “enormously proud” of the series. The series stood as “one of the best police dramas ever made.” The steady growth in the mystery, combined with the constant tense atmosphere that the series brought to life, enhanced the overall appeal of this crime drama.

Police procedurals often tend to become similar, but it was not the case for this crime drama on TNT. Now that Netflix is bringing this series back to the forefront, it can be expected that it will get the much-needed appreciation.

Southland gained immense popularity and was also critically appreciated for its realistic depiction of the storyline. However, the ratings did not match that. The fifth season of the series gained 1.8 million views; however, the ratings were quite low. The fans took to the internet to mourn the loss of their favorite show after the news about the show’s cancellation dropped.

The show gained a steady rise in the number of loyal fans with its storyline. The cast also played a vital role in further perfecting the series, making it such a memorable one. The cast members of the series include Michael Cudlitz, Ben McKenzie, C. Thomas Howell, Regina King, Tom Everett Scott, and many more. The talented cast members were able to bring life to the difficulties that their characters went through in the series.

While discussing the ending of Southland, C. Thomas Howell, who helms the character of Bill "Dewey" Dudek in the series, indicates that he is “pleased”. Ben McKenzie also added that the “cop genre is a well traveled road” yet this series stands out because of the “realistic and true to the actual lives of patrol officers and detectives”.

There is no denying that the realism that is prominent throughout this series is truly a rare element to find in TV shows. Creative liberty often makes creators add elements to enhance the appeal; however, sometimes it leads to the storyline losing its realism, but it is not the case for this Southland. Shawn Hatosy, who helms the character of Sammy Bryant in this series, indicated that they tried to “make the best show we possibly could.”
