Slow Horses Season 7 is set to begin filming at the end of October 2025, according to recent interviews by series lead Gary Oldman.

The acclaimed Apple TV+ spy thriller has kept up its quick production cycle. While the final episode of Season 5 is set to air on October 29, 2025, filming for Season 6 has already been wrapped up.

Viewers are now already looking forward to another installment of high-level conspiracy thanks to the best-selling Slough House novels by Mick Herron. The quick turnaround between seasons reflects the network's approval of the show's long-term popularity prospects, as well as being an important milestone for viewers looking forward to more about Jackson Lamb and his misfit team of MI5.

The production window for Slow Horses Season 7 has been announced, as the series continues to receive critical acclaim and strong audience praise for its darkly humorous take on spy thrillers.

With the show now greenlit at least through Slow Horses Season 7, audiences will continue to see sharp wit from Lamb as well as offbeat investigations from the cast.

Gary Oldman, the careless but genius Jackson Lamb, revealed that Slow Horses Season 7 will go into production at the end of October 2025. In an interview with ScreenRant, Oldman mentioned:

“This was Will's last show, season 5, and we had a whole new team come in. We've already shot season 6, it's in the can, and at the end of October, we start season 7, and that's a new team.”

While everyone else is stuck in streaming purgatory, waiting two, three years for a fresh batch of episodes (such as Apple TV’s own Severance or Netflix’s Stranger Things ), Slow Horses is breaking all the rules for TV production.

This has been possible because the source material is readily available, which is Mick Herron’s Slough House novels. This means showrunners don’t have to sit around in endless writers’ rooms; they just grab the next book off the shelf and get rolling. That being said, Slow Horses Season 7 will be based on the eighth book in the franchise, Bad Actors.

Speaking about his role in an interview with Deadline, Gary Oldman said:

“That is truly the wonderful gift that keeps on giving. I just adore the hell out of it, and the people. It is just such a wonderful thing really to be part of.”

Meanwhile, when Apple TV+ announced Slow Horses Season 7 in July 2025, they teased the show in the press release as:

“In season seven, Lamb and his Slow Horses are on the hunt to find and neutralize a mole at the heart of British Government before they can bring down the state.”

The book’s synopsis reads as follows:

“In London’s MI5 headquarters, a scandal is brewing that could disgrace the entire intelligence community. The Downing Street superforecaster—a specialist who advises the Prime Minister’s office on how policy is likely to be received by the electorate—has disappeared without a trace. Claude Whelan, who was once head of MI5, has been tasked with tracking her down. But the trail leads him straight back to Regent’s Park itself, with First Desk Diana Taverner as chief suspect. Has Taverner overplayed her hand at last?”

What is Slow Horses about?

Slow Horses stands out among contemporary spy thrillers for its sharp satire, emotional depth, and intricately crafted plotting.

The show, adapted by Will Smith for television from Mick Herron's novels, centers on a cast of misfit British intelligence operatives exiled to the made-up "Slough House," a dead-end division for MI5 agents who've screwed up their fieldwork in humiliating fashion.

At the center is Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman). He is a quick-witted but fundamentally rough-around-the-edges chief whose methods may be unorthodox but produce results where the mainstream service falls short.

Each of Lamb's misfit squad, the nickname being the ill-fated Slow Horses, comes to Slough House bearing the scars of professional humiliation, ranging from River Cartwright (Jack Lowden), who's blown his operation and lost his credibility, to seasoned vets who contend with deep-seated office politics and deadly politics at large.

The show's tone ranges between scathing humor and dark suspense. Storylines have included unraveling internal MI5 plots, investigating faked kidnappings intended for foreign political manipulation, and racing the clock against domestic far-right terror threats.

In Season 1 of the show, for example, the Slow Horses unraveled a kidnapping plot involving a fascist cell only to find they had been set up by the leadership of the MI5 for political purposes.

Season 7 of Slow Horses will present new challenges for Lamb and his team, as they navigate both internal betrayals and external threats. While the full cast has yet to be confirmed, many familiar faces are expected to return.
