Comedy Central made a disappointing announcement last night that South Park Season 27 Episode 5 will not air on September 17, the date it was originally scheduled to air. The Donald Trump-centric season will instead air its latest episode a week later, on September 24.
Fans were naturally disappointed with this news and speculations were running wild on the Internet about why the network pulled the plug on Trey Parker and Matt Stone's series' latest episode. However, the reason was simple. The co-creators took full responsibility for this delay and revealed that Episode 5 was not ready on time:
“Apparently when you do everything at the last minute sometimes you don’t get it done. This one’s on us. We didn’t get it done in time. Thanks to Comedy Central and ‘South Park’ fans for being so understanding. Tune in next week!”
Here's when you can expect South Park Season 27 Episode 5 on Comedy Central.
When will South Park Season 27 Episode 5 premiere?
Following last night's delay, South Park Season 27 Episode 5 is now scheduled to air on Comedy Central on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at 10 pm ET/PT. The episode will also be available to stream on Paramount+ the following day.
While eager South Park fans were excited to tune into a new episode yesterday, Comedy Central suddenly announced that the new episode will be released next week.
While Parker and Stone's honest statement helped ease fans a bit, theories were running wild on the Internet yesterday. Since the animated comedy has never shied away from speaking its mind on all matters (read political), fans were speculating that Comedy Central pulled the plug at the last minute or did not approve the new South Park Season 27 episode.
The rumours were essentially wild following Charlie Kirk's killing at a Utah college campus event on September 10. Coincidentally, Season 27 Episode 2 titled Got a Nut featured many humorous gags on Kirk's politics and also took a jab at his peculiar style of debating. Following Kirk's death, Got a Nut was removed from Comedy Central's reruns of the latest season. However, it is still available to stream on Paramount+.
South Park Season 27 will follow a biweekly release schedule
South Park Season 27 has been following a different release schedule from its previous seasons.
According to a Deadline report, a source close to Paramount+ revealed that the show's creators are working on even tighter deadlines this season, writing and animating for new episodes in a very short time, to stay updated on current affairs.
While this technique has been widely successful for South Park Season 27, the only downside to that process is unexpected delays. However, Comedy Central and Paramount+ are keen on having a longer season, as long as the show delivers quality content. As a source revealed to Deadline:
“What they’re doing means this year’s episodes need more time than usual to put together, to finish. So much happens right now in just one day with Trump. No one’s going to sacrifice getting it right, even if we have to push getting it to air, and if that makes the season longer, so be it.”
This has resulted in a biweekly release schedule for Season 27 of South Park. After Episode 5, the show will again take a two-week hiatus and release new episodes every other Wednesday, starting from October 15. The Season 27 finale is scheduled to air on Comedy Central on December 10.
Tune into South Park Season 27 Episode 5 on Comedy Central on September 24.
