The Witcher Season 1 was released on Netflix on December 20, 2019. The second season was released in 2021, the third in 2023, and the fourth in 2025. Now that Season 4 is out, fans are eager to watch Season 5 due to the way this season ended. The Witcher Season 4 ended with Geralt, Yennifer, and Ciri still not together, and facing their own challenges. Yennifer has to find and kill Vilgefortz, Ciri has to somehow escape Leo Bonhart, and Geralt must find both Yennifer and Ciri. Geralt is still looking for Ciri and has been awarded the knighthood (which was his dream for long) by Queen Meve, which made him swear allegiance to her. This will pose as a challenge in Season 5 as a war is coming. Yennifer on the other hand, is yet to kill Vilgefortz, but will continue on her quest in Season 5. While fans are eager to watch Season 5, if there is again a two-year gap or more between the 4th and 5th seasons, it will reduce audience retention. Season 4 has not performed as well as the previous seasons, with a current Rotten Tomatoes score of 60%. Thus, if Season 5 is released too late, more viewers might lose interest. Speaking on the release window of Season 5, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich said to Variety,"Hopefully shorter. Two and a half years is never ideal. Obviously, we had a writers strike in the middle of that, which really pushed Season 4 back. So fingers crossed. We are working so hard in post, we wrapped almost a month ago. We’re we’re pushing ahead and hope to be able to deliver it audiences a little bit sooner."Given that the upcoming season has been filmed, there is a higher chance of it being released sooner, hopefully in 2026. Season 5 getting released soon is crucial to the continuation of the story, since Season 4's story remains incomplete, and as Schmidt Hissrich said to Tudum by Netflix about Season 4,“It wouldn’t be The Witcher if everything ended happily,” View this post on Instagram Instagram PostShe continued,“This is the beginning of a two-season journey for our family to finally reunite and be together—hopefully forever.”Season 5 of The Witcher will star Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri, Joey Batey as Jaskier, Mahesh Jadu as Vilgefortz, Laurence Fishburne as Regis, among others.
