Noah Hawley's science fiction horror series Alien: Earth is about to make its debut on Hulu on August 12, 2025. Based on the popular Alien franchise, the series is the official prequel to the 1979 film Alien and is set two years before the events of the film.
Starring Sydney Chandler, Timothy Olyphant, Samuel Blenkin, Essie Davis, Alex Lawther, and Adarsh Gourav in the lead roles, the series follows humanity's first encounter with extraterrestrial threats after the space vessel Maginot crash-lands on Earth. Wendy, the first hybrid, and her group of tactical soldiers are put face-to-face with the planet's most terrifying creatures.
Alien: Earth is primarily shot in Bangkok, Thailand, and began production on July 19, 2023. While the crew faced some delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the shooting resumed in April 2024 and was wrapped by mid-July 2024.
The series' crew shot for 122 days across many scenic locations in Thailand, particularly the state-of-the-art Studio Park, making it one of the highest-budget foreign productions ever filmed there.

Alien: Earth filming locations: All about the sci-fi series' outdoor sets in Thailand
Alien: Earth, the upcoming science fiction horror series, is primarily shot in Thailand, mainly in state-of-the-art studios and its outdoor setting, which helped create the perfect eerie atmosphere required for the show.
The Studio Park, located at 999 Moo 3, Bang Bo, Bang Bo District, Samut Prakan 10560, Bangkok, Thailand, is an international-standard film production facility, located strategically close to Suvarnabhumi Airport.
This Studio Park is a popular filming location for many shows and the first choice for many filmmakers, as it is home to one of Thailand's largest sound stages on 2,400 square meters. Built in 2016, this Alien: Earth filming location spans 85 acres and is equipped with five soundstages.
Some of the spaces featured in this Studio Park include backlot spaces, two water tanks for underwater filming, a scenic lake with a natural canal, and a warehouse. The combination of tough settings like warehouses and workshops and natural settings like lakes makes it an all-rounder filming spot, especially for science fiction/action series. Moreover, the recently installed virtual production soundstage, equipped with LED wall technology, adds a much-needed futuristic element required for science fiction shows.
In addition, the state-of-the-art studio also houses Gear Head Company Ltd., Thailand’s leading equipment and crew provider. Allegedly, the team hired a total of 1,600 local crew, all thanks to Gear Head Company's collaboration, which provided an efficient production experience.
Alien: Earth is the highest-budget foreign production ever filmed in Thailand
According to a report by Mbrella Films, Alien: Earth is the highest-budget foreign production ever filmed in Thailand. While many shows, namely Disney+’s Ms. Marvel and Apple TV+’s Shantaram, have used the efficient amenities of the Studio Park, this FX production is the most expensive.
A smart choice by director Noah Hawley (for its tax rebates and filming incentives), the destination provided a seamless production experience. The crew spent over 3 billion Baht on 1,600 local crew, renting soundstages and equipment, and booking over 20 hotels across Bangkok to accommodate the local and International cast.
For their support of Thailand's tourism and local economy, Tourism and Sports Minister Sermsak Pongpanich personally visited the Alien: Earth set, noting that Thailand's foreign film revenue is expected to reach a high this year.
In addition to Studio Park, some other filming locations also include Phuket, Phang Nga, Krabi, and Surat Thani.
Catch the first two episodes of Alien: Earth on FX on Hulu on August 12, 2025.
