Daryl Dixon has always been a survivor, but this spin-off takes him away from the world TWD fans first saw him in. The Walking Dead spin-off, titled Daryl Dixon, started off with him in France, the country that had been linked to the origins of the zombie virus.
From there on out, he sets out on a dangerous journey across a broken but beautiful land, hoping to find his way back home. Norman Reedus returned as Daryl to lead the series, with a set of cast and characters who brought these new stories and conflicts to life.
What started off as a simple mission soon turned out to be something much bigger as Daryl’s path in France kept twisting at every corner and every turn.
Season 3 of the show saw a release on September 7, 2025.
Where was Daryl Dixon shot? Taking a look at the important filming locations of The Walking Dead spin-off
1. The Provence countryside and Bouches-du-Rhône Provence:
Before Daryl Dixon made his way to Paris, he was seen walking through the French countryside. These scenes were filmed in Provence, a place known for lavender fields, rustic villages, and vineyards.
But here, the setting soon changes into something much more darker; a setting that is in a way the perfect hunting ground for new walker variants. In the Bouches-du-Rhône area, we get to see the rugged cliffs, olive groves, and historic towns. It's the kind of location that looks peaceful at first look but it has an uneasy edge once you see Dixon fighting off attackers right in the middle of it.
2. Abbaye de Montmajour, Arles:
One of the most striking locations in Dixon's journey is the Abbaye de Montmajour, located near Arles. This centuries-old abbey acted as the haunting setting for the nuns of the Union of Hope, where Daryl meets Isabelle and Laurent. The almost falling and crumbling stone walls and ancient arches give the series a gothic mood that fits perfectly with the apocalyptic story.
Within these ruins, Daryl Dixon's story takes a turn. What starts off as a search for safety soon becomes a mission tied to the boy Laurent, who many in the abbey see as humanity's savior.
The faith, desperation, and fear that play out here feels even heavier against the abbey's historic backdrop. It's not just a filming location and really if you look closely, it's a character of its own, with centuries of silence and sudden hears of gunfire, screams, and prayers.
3. Pont du Gard, Occitanie:
Few locations capture both history and spectacle like the Pont du Gard in southern France, and the production team made sure Daryl Dixon had his moment there. The massive Roman aqueduct, with its towering arches, instantly adds scale to the series. Against its calm and timeless presence, the 'chaos-ness' of the apocalypse feels even more jarring.
When Daryl Dixon faces danger here, the contrast between survival in the present and a structure that has lasted two thousand years is impossible to miss. While civilizations rose and fell, this monument still stands. In the series, its permanence plays against the fragility of the human characters trying to hold on for one more day.
4. The Louvre, Panthéon, and Grands Boulevards, Paris:
Once Daryl Dixon makes it to Paris, the show wastes no time weaving in iconic sites. The Louvre Museum, famous for the Mona Lisa, becomes more than an art stop and it turns into the location for tense meets where even beauty feels dangerous.
The Panthéon, is yet another Paris location and it acts like one of the show's more darker moments. Its really huge dome and marble halls have everything to do with more than just history in Dixon's world.
And then there are the Grands Boulevards, normally filled with tourists and lights, but now as empty as a place comes. These locations give the Paris scenes a haunting mix of grand and dread, showing a city on screen where every corner has both wonder and risk all at the same time.
6. Catacombs of Paris and Mont-Saint-Michel, Normandy
If anywhere screams horror, it's the Catacombs of Paris. Under the city, the tunnels act as a stage for the kind of tension that Daryl Dixon lives on. The silence and never ending passages add a layer of fear that the show taps into extremely well.
Now, moving a bit far away from Paris, the show also made use of Mont-Saint-Michel in Normandy, an island that looks like it belongs in a fairytale.
In Daryl Dixon, though, the abbey on the rock feels like the ultimate fortress in a world that has been overrun by death. It's the kind of place that seems safe until you remember that the walkers are the ones who never really wait.
Daryl Dixon doesn't just give fans more of their favorite survivor but it takes them on a tour to places all across France to experience the apocalypse.
From Provence's hills to Paris's catacombs, every filming location adds something to Daryl Dixon's world.
These locations aren't just backgrounds visual moving pictures on your screens but rather they help tell the story, proving that even in a world that has been ruined, the setting can still be as unforgettable as the fight to survive.
