The upcoming Italian Prime Video drama, Hotel Costiera, was filmed in the heart of the Amalfi Coast, according to reports. Some other locations featured in the show were Treville Positano and a boutique hotel just outside the town of Positano. Hotel Costiera is a crime drama following an ex-marine officer with a troubled past, now arriving in Italy to work with the owner of a luxurious hotel. On the face, it's glamorous, but beneath lies the hidden secrets and betrayal.

Therefore, to showcase the glamorous side, the makers have selectively chosen their settings in the Amalfi Coast. The property of the legendary director Franco Zeffirelli comes with some vine-draped terraces and suits adorned with antique items, adding richness to the production design and overall frames of the show. The hotel serves as the ultra-exclusive property where most of the story unfolds. The private estate of director Franco Zeffirelli features some breezy balconies and rocky bathing platforms that contribute to the unique and luxurious setting portrayed in the story. Positano also offers some pastel houses stacked on steep hillsides, the buttery yellow cathedral with a tiled dome, and the vast expanse of the sea reflecting the sunlight, dotted with boats.

The locations selected were not just added to the cinematic beauty of the show, but also have an established history of glamour. Zeffirelli hosted icons like Maria Callas, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Rudolf Nureyev, and Liza Minnelli there, and much of his original furniture and mementoes remain on display. Therefore, the show mixes these theatrical elements, luxury, and the history it comes with into the show's DNA.

Hotel Costiera isn’t just about luxury and spectacle; it also treats Treville Positano as a character in its own right. It is named after Leonard Bernstein, who composed works such as Brother Sun, Sister Moon during his stay there. They have some unique features there, like a circular shower built on an old bread oven, along with a private gildfish pond.

The rooms offer some stunning sunset views. Casa Zeffirelli is a four-bedroom villa where Franco himself stayed, and it is adorned with his original furniture, including Carrara marble bath and mother-of-pearl inlay. Therefore, the show has relied on shooting on real locations rather than recreating the same in the studio, which adds to the authenticity of the visuals.

Naples, a vibrant southern Italian city, is another location where the filming took place. The place isn't just a shooting location but is also tied to the ex-marine officer, Daniel De Luca’s backstory, reflecting his Neapolitan roots. The visuals move between the coastal areas, bustling city, and cliffside luxury to paint a world where the story can unfold authentically.

The trailer suggests that the entire drama and action takes place against the backdrop of the hotel, with visitors arriving for a vacation at the property. Viewers will also experience some underwater scenes that show the crystalline blue of the Tyrrhenian Sea while also serving the narrative.

Hotel Costiera is releasing on Amazon Prime Video on September 24, 2025.
