With just the first two episodes, Made in Korea is making headlines already. It cannot be denied that the thrilling premise that the series encompasses promises a storyline filled with distinct intensity. Besides the storyline and the cast members of this series, the ability to bring forth the visuals of the time during which this series is based became an essential element for the creators.
However, it can be admitted that the creators truly did a commendable job in bringing life to the era of history, despite the changes that South Korea has gone through in recent years.
Revisiting the filming locations of Made in Korea
To bring out the era that is the backdrop of Made in Korea, filming locations had to be chosen to cater to the storyline perfectly. The port city visuals, which are a crucial part of the storyline was filmed in Kobe, Japan. Director Woo Min-ho added that to bring out the visuals of the “Vietnam War scenes”, filming had to be done in Thailand.
In Thailand, the 3D Tunnel and Sangchuto Road of Kanchanaburi were used as filming locations. Along with these two locations, Satthahip Beach and Royal Thai Marine Naval Base Corps of Chonburi were also used as crucial locations for the filming process of Made in Korea.
Besides the rigorous filming process through different locations, the cast members, especially Hyun Bin, went through a distinct physical transformation to fit perfectly for the role. In an interview, Hyun Bin talks about his weight gain and that he “gained about 13–14 kg” for his role.

He continues that the “sense of intimidation suitable for someone in the KCIA” required the physical requirement. In the first two episodes, his presence perfectly depicts the dedication with which he handled the role in this series.
In Made in Korea, Jung Woo-sung helms the role of Jang Geon-young. Jang Geon-young is a prosecutor with a distinct focus on bringing justice to the world. While discussing his role in the series, Jung Woo-sung indicates that his character “wants to be a ‘just’ person”.
Jang Geon-young’s past creates a distinct level of problem for him, for which he wants to “overcome that shame”. In this series, there are elements that are inspired by the real events of Korea’s history. Hence, the addition of realism to the fiction perfectly creates a blend for a storyline worth diving into.

From the level of intensity with which the first two episodes of the series resonate, it can be understood that the upcoming episodes of this series will definitely be memorable. The filming process of this series was very similar to that of a movie, as revealed by Woo Min-ho.
They “focused and selected scenes” with extreme care, as “it’s a six-part series.” He also added that the quality of the series is going to be “impeccable,” which can be seen from just the first two episodes already. The dedication of the whole team shines bright through the series.
The next episode of this series will drop on December 31 at 4 PM KST. The first two episodes have set the stage for Geon-yeong and Gi-tae’s fight. Geon-yeon understands the trouble that Gi-tae can cause, so he is preparing himself to face him head-on.
