NCIS fans are buzzing as Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David are back together in the upcoming spin-off, NCIS: Tony & Ziva. The show is set to drop on September 4, 2025, on Paramount+.

Among other aspects, fan anticipation is fever pitch about where the show was filmed. Early reports confirm that showmakers went all in on the globetrotting. The series will feature several European locations such as Budapest, Paris, and the Canary Islands.

Notably, Budapest is the main star here. The city has those moody ruin bars, winding streets, and riverside vibes that are fit for international spy drama.

If you have been rooting for Tiva since day one, NCIS: Tony & Ziva isn’t just promising you more action and love scenes - it is getting a complete makeover. Tony and Ziva’s lives post-NCIS aren’t exactly business as usual. So, you are getting intense chases, tearjerker reunions, sketchy back-alley drama you would expect, but with legit European flair.

NCIS: Tony and Ziva shook the roots of the NCIS formula by abandoning the sunny Los Angeles sets and returning to the heart of Europe. Budapest, Hungary, was selected as the main place of shooting because of aesthetic and logistical factors.

The alluring ruin bars, winding streets, and fancy river fronts of Budapest served as the screen onto which international intrigue, action-packed scenes, and dramatic interpersonal dialogues were projected.

Principal photography took place between July 2024 and early 2025, filming in the winter nights of the streets and the busy city of Budapest. The actors, Michael Weatherly (Tony) and Cote de Pablo (Ziva), raved about the versatility of the city, which doubles as Paris in some crucial sequences, and as a new European destination as the series goes global.

Weatherly was quoted by Cinemablend, hailing the shoot as:

“The greatest adventure of my life,” pointing to the unique energy and creative possibilities Budapest offered.

Some of the primary Budapest locations include the Hungarian Parliament Building (Országház), the Buda Castle (Budavári Palota), Royal Riding Hall (Királyi Lovarda), Wenckheim Palace, Széchenyi Chain Bridge, and Veres Pálné Street. A few more Hungarian locations include Szentendre and Etyek.

The family dynamic was also brought into Paris, as part of a narrative legacy of Tony and Ziva in the latter scenes of the parent show. Many of the scenes supposedly featuring Paris were recreated at Budapest locations with designs that mimicked the French capital, according to The Cinemaholic.

However, some exterior and core sequences were actually filmed in Paris to provide authenticity. The location filming in Paris cemented the emotional undertones, as scenes captured small apartments on the streets of the iconic boulevards and large city squares.

Cast and crew also filmed in the Canary Islands of Spain, which provided sunlit beaches and spectacular scenery to the show’s palette. The Canary Islands shoot provided a Mediterranean twist of suspenseful chasing and infused the story with danger as well as landscape.

The show, officially called NCIS: Tony & Ziva, is the most recent spin-off of the long-running and popular NCIS series on CBS and Paramount+. Announced in 2024 following years of rumors, the spin-off features Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David, as the leads again, as they reside in Paris alongside their daughter, Tali.

Instead of returning to the procedural structure of their previous lives at NCIS, the show puts the characters into an international thriller when the security company that Tony works for becomes the target of a mysterious attack, sending the family on a dangerous cross-European flight.

NCIS: Tony & Ziva combines clever banter, emotional family drama, and beat-in-your-chest suspense, described by its stars and showrunner as “romance meets action” and “an adventure with real stakes.” The tone is still full of the elements that NCIS fans know and love: witty banter, emotionally loaded subplots, and intricate conspiracies. The only difference is a European background.

Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo not only reprise their roles as lead actors, but also act as executive producers. Other cast characters are Isla Gie as Tali DiNozzo, Amita Suman, Lara Rossi, Maximilian Osinski, and Julian Ovenden, bringing a new cast to the next chapter.

The first three episodes of the premiere, entitled No Country is Safe, No Friend of Mine, and Cover Story, promise high-tech security intrigue and new villains, with numerous references to old friends. Now that the DiNozzo family is zooming through Europe, the audience can look forward to breathtaking scenery, mind-blowing plot twists, and a love story that has lasted 20 years.

There will be 10 episodes in the first season of NCIS: Tony & Ziva. Following the release of the first three episodes, the show will proceed to release an episode every Thursday, ending the season with the 10th episode called Full Circle on October 23, 2025.

NCIS: Tony & Ziva will premiere exclusively on Paramount+ not only in the United States but also internationally across several regions.
