Jessica was born on February 19, 1963, in New York City, USA. She was inclined towards art since childhood. She earned a degree in social science from Yale University in 1986. There she was actively involved in theatre, which laid the foundation for her acting career.

As mentioned, her big break came in 1988 with the role of Gordon Harrison on the ABC show One Life to Live. She quickly became a fan favourite with her witty and vulnerable character. She remained on the show as a regular cast member till 1992. In 1999, she played Gillian Gray, wife of Vincent Gray, on Judging Amy.

Tuck earned a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress for One Life to Live. She also earned a Soap Opera Digest Award nod for Outstanding Female Newcomer.

In 2008, she joined the cast of the HBO show True Blood, portraying Nan Flanagan. She started as a recurring guest star and was later promoted to series regular by season 4. This role also highlighted the versatility of the actress, as this was the first time she attempted a darker, genre-blending role.
