The highly anticipated Apple TV+ period drama, The Buccaneers Season 2, premiered on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. Based on Edith Wharton's unfinished novel, this series debuted in 2023 and was soon renewed for a fresh season. In Season 1, the viewers were introduced to five free-spirited elite American women, Nan, Jinny, Conchita, Lizzy, and Mabel, who venture into 1870s London in hopes of securing a match among the British aristocrats.
The filming of The Buccaneers Season 2 takes place in Scotland and with some parts in Croatia. Scotland is a perfect choice for filming period dramas like The Buccaneers. The reason? It provides rich historical architecture, varied landscapes, castles, and grand estates, and most importantly, Scotland's weather and scenery elevate the authenticity of such historical drama.
The Buccaneers season 1 was filmed in some iconic Scottish locations that served as a perfect backdrop for 1870s London, Cornwall, and even New York. Some of them were:
- Manderston House, Scottish Borders, served as St George's family house
- Touch House, Stirling, used as Guy's home
- The University of Glasgow and Glasgow City Chambers
- Gosford House as Closson mansion
- Sea Cliff Beach in East Lothian and St Abb's Head in Berwickshire
- Culzean Castle, Drumlarig Castle, and Galloway, as Tintagel's castle exterior, and Hopetoun House for its interior shots
- Newhailes House in Musselburgh was used as the Brighlinsea family's residence.
Season 2 features a star-studded cast, which includes Kristine Froseth, Alisha Boe, Josie Totah, Imogen Waterhouse, Audri Ibrag, and Mathew Broome, to name a few. Leighton Meester, Greg Wise, Jacob Ifan, and Maria Almeida are some of the new cast members who have joined the series. However, their characters are kept under wraps as of now.

In addition to the places that were already used for filming Season 1, here's a list of new locations in Scotland and Croatia that were used for Season 2.
Edinburgh

Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, is filled with Georgian and Victorian architecture. Thus, it makes it a perfect filming location for shows like The Buccaneers Season 2. The scenes of the 1870s London high society from The Buccaneers Season 1, including the government buildings, private clubs, and grand streets, were shot in Edinburgh. It adds grandeur and authenticity to the scenes, featuring powerful characters like Nan and Conchita. The Gosford House and city streets were already used in the debut season to represent parts of London and New York. Hence, to maintain the continuity, Season 2 will also feature the iconic locations.
The Buccaneers Season 2 might explore other parts of Edinburgh City that haven't been explored in the series yet.
Istria Peninsula, Croatia
Some of the scenes of The Buccaneers Season 2 feature a fictional town called Porto Salvo. The scenes are actually shot in Istria, a heart-shaped peninsula with blue and crystal clear water and a beautiful landscape. It features a perfect mix of Roman, Habsburg, and Venetian history, making it a perfect filming location for the show.
Geilston Garden, Cardross near Helensburgh, Argyll and Bute

An old walled garden of the National Trust lies on the River Clyde's shores, it is used as a filming location for The Buccaneers Season 2. Did you know that there's a huge Wellingtonia tree at Geilston Garden planted back in 1797? The Geilston Garden is open to the general public and costs around £10.00 for an adult and £5.00 for a child. The garden center opens at 10 am and closes at 5 pm.
The beautiful woodland garden at Geilston, the kitchen garden, and the flower garden provide a great backdrop to shoot romantic walks or private scenes for Season 2.
Secret meetings, emotional conversations, or even forging hidden alliances, Geilston Garden provides a perfect atmosphere and landscape that takes the viewers to the 1870s.
Greenock town, Inverclyde

Located on the south bank of the River Clyde and approximately 23 miles from Glasgow, Greenock town also features several Victorian historic buildings, in addition to Lyle Hill, which offers a panoramic view of the city. Greenock town may serve as a backdrop for portraying the working class of London or New York in The Buccaneers Season 2. It could feature subplots involving scandals, struggles, and the less privileged. Now that Jinny is on the run with her unborn child, she might end up in this location and keep low as she's accused of abducting the unborn child.
As Season 2 unfolds, viewers can expect these settings to play as important a role as the characters themselves, shaping the drama and deepening emotional impact while giving the viewers a visual treat.
