Channel 5’s The Hardacres has been earning praise from fans for its period setting, costumes, and a fresh storyline. After impressing the British audience, the show has now been made available on BritBox for international viewers.
The series is set in 1890s Yorkshire and follows the titular working-class family. The family goes from struggling financially to being one of the richest members of the town in a short span of time.
Looking at the period setting of the show, fans are wondering where the production crew found the perfect places to depict the Yorkshire of the late 19th century. So here is all you need to know about the filming locations of The Hardacres.
The Hardacres filming locations
The Hardacres was filmed in Ireland. While the premise of the series takes place in Yorkshire, England, it was actually shot in Dublin and County Wicklow. Let’s have a look at these filming locations in detail:
1. Dublin, Ireland
The show was mainly filmed in Dublin, the capital of Ireland. The city’s historic buildings with Georgian and Victorian styles made it the perfect place to showcase 19th-century England. Dublin’s streets worked well to depict the poor fishing docks, as well as the fancy lifestyle of the family.
The shoot took place from November 2023 to February 2024, and filming in the winter gave the show a rough yet realistic feel. One prominent location in Dublin that can be spotted in The Hardacres is Cabinteely Park. The suburban park features open lawns and wooded paths, which worked well for some outdoor sequences.
Talking about why the production team chose Dublin as the primary filming location, set designer Derek Wallace revealed that the city has still preserved its history in the form of its buildings and furniture, and hence, it was easy to showcase the 1890s setting. He said in an interview with Radio Times:
“Back in the 1800s, Dublin was the second biggest city in the Empire. It was London and then Dublin. So we do still have a lot of Georgian infrastructure and Victorian infrastructure, and we have a lot of furniture still.”
“The buyers were tasked with finding as much as they possibly could here in Ireland because of the logistics for Brexit. And in fairness to them, they came up trumps. Almost 90 per cent we sourced here in Ireland.”
2. County Wicklow, Ireland
The Hardacres was also filmed in County Wicklow, Ireland. The county is known for its rolling hills, valleys, and cliffs, which stood in for Victorian Yorkshire’s countryside.
The scenes involving the fishing and farming life of the family were filmed here. The county’s coastline was utilized to demonstrate the Yorkshire seaside in the show. County Wicklow is called the Garden of Ireland and is famous for its scenic locations.
The show stars Liam McMahon as Sam Hardacre, Claire Cooper as Mary Hardacre, Shannon Lavelle as Liza Hardacre, Adam Little as Joe Hardacre, Zak Ford-Williams as Harry Hardacre, and Julie Graham as Ma Hardacre. It premiered on Channel 5 in October 2024 and on BritBox in September 2025.
