Despite being shown as set in East Texas, The Hunting Wives was filmed almost entirely in North Carolina. With scenes set in lakefront cabins, small towns, and beautiful trails, the filming locations helped shape and mold the ambience of obsession, secrets, and suspense.

Here's a complete run-through of where The Hunting Wives was filmed.

Where was The Hunting Wives shot?

Lake Norman’s Azalea Retreat

Based on Marry Cobb's book, one of the show's most stunning settings is Lake Norman, where the Azalea Retreat in Sherrills Ford played an important role. This location, located about 45 miles north of Charlotte, offers a lakeside calm that hides a lot more than it lets on.

In The Hunting Wives, a lot of intense and emotional scenes were filmed at The Lodge, a cabin surrounded by natural beauty. The property gave the production team a perfect spot for private scenes, which added tension.

The lakeside views weren't just a background setting, and they eventually became an important part of the story's mood. With Sherrills Ford being known as the quieter area of the lake, within the context of the show, it becomes a place where secrets quietly come undone.

Azalea Retreat's elegance and wilderness added to a haunting setting for a story being built on temptation and betrayal.

Mooresville: North Carolina

When The Hunting Wives needed to transform into Maple Brook, Texas, the answer was downtown Mooresville. Located roughly some miles away from the north of Charlotte, this North Carolina town was decked with the southern charm and a small-town feel that looked straight out of Texas.

The production team completely reworked Main Street, where local stores also became part of Maple Brook's charm. Even the town hall scenes were shot right here, with film crews working for weeks to recreate the energy.

The mix of Mooresville's modern feel and its historical vibe gave the show a grounded and believable hometown energy, essential for a series that plays with the idea of safety and danger behind closed doors.

Richfield and Charlotte

For moments that needed nature as a backdrop, The Hunting Wives used the Falcon Trail Trailhead in Richfield. This location, with its quiet trails and lakeside scenery, sits about 15 miles east of Mooresville. It gave the story a quiet, isolated setting perfect for scenes that build tension in silence.

Charlotte and its surrounding neighborhoods were also key for other sequences. Spots like the Dilworth Tasting Room in South End became filming sites during the production window, which ran from March to July 2024. Crews used several Charlotte-area locations to expand the world without leaving the state.

Each area brought a different piece of the fictional Maple Brook to life, showing how carefully selected locations can elevate a show's atmosphere.

While The Hunting Wives tells a gripping story located with a whole lot of Texas charm and danger, it was North Carolina that actually helped give it shape. From lakesides to small-town roads and trails, every single location added depth to the unfolding drama.

For fans of the show, the real-world locations are just as captivating as the story they helped tell.
