Netflix's Unseen came up with a second season, dropped on May 2, 2025, where the story picks up after the killing spree Zenzi Mwale (Gail Mabalane) had gone through in the first season. The second season opens in a hospital where she is seemingly dead, and the viewers are then taken to a flashback.

Rotten Tomatoes' Tomatometer doesn't have enough tomatoes (read it as ‘reviews’) to give us a proper rating, so we can't tell if that's fresh or not. But we do have a Popcornmeter score based on less than 50 fan reviews, which shows a 78% approval. That said, the South African show appears to be watchable.

The show was primarily shot in Cape Town, the legislative capital of South Africa. Several movies have been filmed on the locations, most notably Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), which features a few locations from the region. For TV series, several episodes of Black Mirror were shot there.

Now the list is large, and we are here to discuss Unseen, so we will now see what locations from Cape Town were used in the series. The series director, Travis Taute, has mentioned some locations before, and that was all we could find on the internet. So we will take a look at them now.

Locations from Cape Town that were featured in Unseen

One of the Unseen locations is the affluent suburb of Cape Town called Camps Bay, which is one great tourist attraction in summer. A Black Mirror episode, San Junipero, was shot here, which is portrayed as one beach town. Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mackenzie Davis, Denis Burse, and more starred in it. Other than this, the shorts The Revenge of the Tarzan (2015) and Verstikking (2022) were shot here.

Fresnaye

Another affluent suburb that was used for Unseen's filming was Fresnaye. That's located between Signal Hill and Sea Point. The region is set below the infamous South African mountain, Lion's Head. If you'll ever get to visit the place, do note the names of the streets there, for they reflect their French heritage.

Athlone

Athlone had a different name back then, West London, but then it was later changed. The region is among the featured locations in the show. Interestingly, there's even a film named after the region, Athlone ’85, by Theo E. Davis. Though we don't know what exactly happens in it, as we are yet to see it. However, it is said to be inspired by true events, so that at least makes it a one-time watch.

Milnerton

While Milnerton is one town in itself, it's still considered a suburb. A few areas of attraction of this Unseen location include Milnerton Lagoon, Woodbridge Island, and Milnerton Beach. Several episodes of the 2016 TV series, Arendsvlei, were shot in here.

Lavender Hill

Lavender Hill is the last location in this list. The region is a part of Cape Flats in Cape Town, which is considered a central business district. As the name suggests, that's one low-lying area in South Africa. Regarding films, IMDb shows just one movie, Ellen: The Ellen Pakkies Story (2018), being shot there.
