ALLBLK's original coming-of-age drama G.R.I.T.S., starring Jasmine Sargent, Aja "Silmeroni" Canyon, and Ashanti Harris, is all about friendship, life, and womanhood.
At the centre of the story are Keisha, Francis, and Ty, a group of close-knit friends from Memphis, who navigate life together. Their dream? Win a skating competition for the lucrative prize money ($50,000) and fulfill their dreams. Explore how the trio faces several challenges, from financial struggles to family issues, but sticks together no matter what. Deji Laray serves as the creator, writer, and director. Some episodes are also directed by Taliliah Breon and Dale S. Lewis.
G.R.I.T.S premiered on October 30, 2025, on ALLBLK, an OTT platform that encourages projects meant for African American audiences primarily. G.R.I.T.S Season 1 has eight episodes in total. Even though there's no update about a second season, the buzz is quite strong, and ALLBLK is eying a second season. Even though the show is set in Memphis, much of the filming took place in Atlanta.
In an interview with the Memphis Commercial Appeal, here's what Jasmine Sargeant revealed about the show.
"They can expect Southern charm. I honestly feel like people can expect to grow an emotional bond with so many of the characters,” recognizing in them their own parents, aunts, uncles and cousins."
