Thunder in Paradise premiered in March 1994 and featured Hulk Hogan, Carol Alt, and Chris Lemmon. Hogan played J "Hurricane" Spencer, a former United States Navy SEAL who now worked as a mercenary, along with Martin "Bru" Brubaker, played by Lemmon, and operated out of a tropical resort.

The show, from the creators of Baywatch, ran for a season of 22 episodes, where Hogan's Hurricane Spencer travels around the world in his stylish, crime-fighting, futuristic boat named "Thunder." Spencer collaborates with his partner Brubaker, and they fight villainous criminals around the world while raising Brubaker's stepdaughter Jessica.

Kelly LaRew is the owner and manager of the Scuttlebutt Bar & Grill, which is located right in front of their "headquarters" resort. She also acts as a romantic interest for Brubaker.
