Young Sheldon ended with its seventh and final season in May 2024.
The final episodes focused on Sheldon preparing to leave for Caltech, a big step in his academic journey that will lead to the events of The Big Bang Theory. The Cooper family faced heartbreak with the sudden passing of George Sr., which caused much grief to the characters and fans alike.
Young Sheldon ended on a heartfelt note with Sheldon boarding a plane to start his new life, while Jim Parsons, who played adult Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory, returned to narrate and even made a surprise appearance. It was a fitting end that connected the prequel perfectly with the first show. But even though the series is over, the story of the cast continues.
Here's what the stars of Young Sheldon have been up to since the finale.
What are the Young Sheldon cast members doing now?
Since the show ended, Iain Armitage has stepped back from acting. He has been spending more time on personal interests, including learning to fly and working toward a student pilot's license. Iain has kept in touch with the rest of the cast and hinted he may return to the screen soon. He’s also shown interest in reprising his role in Big Little Lies, if the show returns for a third season.
Montana Jordan didn’t take much of a break after Young Sheldon ended. He now stars in the spinoff show Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, where he continues playing Georgie Cooper. The show premiered in fall 2024 and has already been renewed for another season. Fans are enjoying the extended story of Georgie and Mandy as partners and parents.
Raegan Revord also returned for the spinoff series, playing Missy Cooper. In addition to acting, she is now a published author. Her debut young adult novel, Rules for Fake Girlfriends, is set to release in fall 2025.
Though George Sr. passed away before the end of Young Sheldon, Lance Barber was able to return briefly. He appeared in a dream sequence in the spinoff, giving fans one last moment with his character. Since then, Lance has kept a lower profile, and hence, not much is known about his future career plans.
Zoe Perry kept busy after the original show ended by joining the spinoff series as well. She still plays Mary Cooper, the strong and sometimes overwhelmed mom. Besides that, she landed a recurring role in the final season of The Conners, where she plays Officer Binkowski. It’s a funny coincidence, as her real-life mother, Laurie Metcalf, played Mary Cooper in The Big Bang Theory and has shared a few scenes with Zoe in The Conners.
Annie Potts has continued her role as Meemaw in the spinoff show. She’s been open about how much the character means to her. In an interview with People Magazine, she shared,
“I mean, I love the cast. Wonderful character to play,”
She continued,
“But hey, I'm old, this could be my last rodeo. I mean, I thought about that though, panicked me a little bit. These things are hard to come by, I've had a couple, but they were all tough, so yeah."
Emily Osment is also part of the new Young Sheldon spinoff, returning as Mandy. She has continued acting and has been popular for her role in the extended Young Sheldon franchise. Emily has been praised for playing a character with a unique story and the way her character portrays motherhood.
Jim Parsons, the original Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory, worked closely with Young Sheldon as its narrator and executive producer. He made a surprise on-screen appearance in the final episode, surprising fans. Jim continues to produce and act in other projects, including the upcoming limited series Hollywood Black.
Matt Hobby has remained in the picture too, reprising his role as Pastor Jeff from Young Sheldon in the spinoff. Outside of acting, he co-hosts a podcast called Pay or Request with fellow comedian Joe Schiappa. He’s been keeping busy both on screen and in the world of comedy.
The story of Young Sheldon may have come to an end, but its cast have either reprised their roles or started new chapters in their lives. With many of them returning in the spinoff, fans still get to see their favorite characters grow.
