Bosch is a special TV show. It tells one story across seven seasons. The show introduced a great character, Detective Harry Bosch. He lives by a simple rule: everybody counts or nobody counts. His Los Angeles feels real, full of light and hidden corners. Harry fought in two wars. His past helps him as a murder detective.

The show is based on books by Michael Connelly, but it created its own feel. Here are all seven seasons, ranked from weakest to strongest.

Season 3

In Season 3, Bosch worked on three cases at the same time. He looked for clues about his mother’s murder from many years ago. He investigated the new murder of a homeless veteran named Billy Meadows. And he was a suspect in the murder of a movie director. This director had caused Bosch problems before. Any of these stories could have filled a whole season. Bosch’s search for the truth about his mother was the main emotional story.

But the season felt divided. It seemed disorganized. The three stories did not join into one main story. They ran next to each other and fought for screen time. The season had no single focus. This makes it the weakest season.

Season 7

The final season of Bosch had an important role. The main case was a fire in an apartment building that killed people. A young mother and her kids died. The fire was started on purpose. It was meant to kill a woman involved in a federal money case. This case was personal for Bosch. It pushed him very hard. He broke some rules and made enemies in high places. The season was a good ending for his police career. We see him give up his badge.

The season was weak for one reason. It had to set up the next show, Bosch: Legacy. It took a lot of time preparing characters for that show. His daughter Maddie chose to become a police officer. The lawyer, Honey Chandler, recovered after being shot and planned what to do next. This attention to the future made the main case feel hurried. The money crime behind the fire was not fully explained.

Season 2

This season expanded the world of Bosch. The main case was the murder of a Hollywood producer, Tony Allen. The case showed that Allen worked with the Las Vegas mob. Bosch’s ex-wife, Eleanor Wish, came back into the story. His daughter, Maddie, also became an important character. Their family was in the middle of a dangerous mob case. This made the threat feel more real for Bosch. More was at risk than just solving a crime.

The season was not as strong as others. The writers mixed stories from a few books into one season. This made the story feel full of too many people and plots. There were mobsters, bad police officers, and police investigations all at once. The story was thrilling, though the show excels with street-level murders.

Season 1

The first season was a great beginning for the show. It focused on one case. The bones of a 13-year-old boy were found in the hills. The case was 20 years old. The boy’s name was Arthur Delacroix. He was committed to the case and determined to get justice for the boy. The season did a good job of creating a dark and serious feeling for the show. It was a simple but strong detective story. The season also included a second story: Bosch was on trial for shooting a suspect.

This season is ranked lower for one reason. The show got even better later. The story was very good, but other seasons had bigger and more difficult cases.

Season 6

Season 6 had one of the strongest cases. Federal agents requested his assistance in locating a missing scientist, Stanley Kent. Kent could obtain a dangerous radioactive material. The city of Los Angeles faced the threat of a dirty bomb. Bosch and his partners had to work fast to stop a terrible event. At the same time, Bosch kept working on an old case: the murder of a teenager named Daisy Clayton. Her death bothered him deeply. The story was a quick and exciting thriller.

The size of the threat makes this season weaker than the top seasons. The story was good, but the show is best when it focuses on murders on the street. A terror threat across the whole city felt different for the show. The dirty bomb story was more like an action movie and missed some of the real detective work the show is known for.

Season 5

This season gave us a different view of Harry Bosch. He worked undercover to stop a smart group that sold illegal drugs. He had to act like a veteran with a drug problem. He called himself Dominick Santanello and lived in a camp for homeless veterans outside the city. He did not have his badge or gun for most of the season because he needed to earn the criminals’ trust. The most risky part was that they could have killed him if they discovered his real identity.

The story was gripping, highlighting his physical and mental strength. The undercover story focused mostly on Harry by himself.

Season 4

So which season is the best? Season 4, of course. It starts with the murder of a well-known lawyer, Howard Elias. Elias often sued the police department. He was killed right before a big trial about police violence. The people of Los Angeles were outraged; they thought the police had killed him. The police department needed to calm things down, so they made Bosch the leader of a special team to find the killer.

Everyone was watching his every move. He had to investigate other police officers, which tested his feelings about his job and his own beliefs. The story explored problems with the police, race, and the courts. All the parts of the season fit together.

The series offered a thoughtful look at one man’s pursuit of truth. Fans say every season offered something valuable. The show was consistent for its entire run. It respected its audience and its source material. The story was worth watching.
