Stranger Things Season 5 is less than a week away from premiering the first part of its fifth and final season. Before the fifth season, deaths in the Duffer Brothers universe have mainly found guest stars who find a place in the audience's heart, ensuring an emotional toll. If such a trend continues into the final season, all of the main characters would make it through alive.
However, now that we've made our way into the final season and the final adventure, the stakes are higher than ever. So, there is a chance that the Duffer brothers might just avoid taking the same route this time around.
Keep reading to find out more about the theories regarding deaths in Stranger Things Season 5.
Stranger Things Season 5: Theories on which characters might not make it through the final adventure
In a perfect world, neither Eddie Munson nor Dr. Alexie would die the horrific deaths that they did in Stranger Things. But Hawkins is not a perfect world. In reality, Hawkins is a world infested by the Upside Down, Vecna, and his deadly creatures, who are bound to destruction.
Now we're days away from the final chapters in Eleven and the Hawkins gang's story, and the biggest point of contention among the audience is on theories predicting the deaths in Stranger Things Season 5. Here is a look at some of the theories on which of the characters might not make it through the final adventure safe and sound.
The fan favourite: Steve Harrington

One of the biggest theories circulating the internet ahead of the Stranger Things Season 5 release is that Steve Harrington, the fans' favourite babysitter, might not make it through the season alive. Several factors have contributed to this theory. The Duffer brothers have previously revealed that Joe Keery's Steve wasn't meant to survive past Season 1, but the actor's charms convinced the creators to keep him around.
Harrington's character has experienced one of the greatest character arcs on the show, so his dying in the final journey, in an attempt to protect the Hawkins gang, especially Nancy and Dustin, would essentially make the most perfect character journey, however brutal such a death would be. Additionally, the trailer features Dustin and Nancy breaking down, also contributing to this fan theory.
The ones who are most connected to Vecna: Eleven, Will

The next and most considered theory is that either Eleven or Will, or both of them, will be dying by the end of Stranger Things Season 5. Even imagining these fan-favorite characters who've grown up with the audience of the show for the past decade takes an emotional toll on the audience. However, considering the fact that Eleven sending off Number One into the Upside Down was, in a way, the start of everything that has happened in Hawkins, it would be a poetic end if she were to sacrifice herself to save Hawkins and the people she loves.
Ever since Vecna took Will into the Upside Down, Will has been connected to him, despite being rescued from there. The second season even finds Will being controlled as a spy for Vecna and bringing harm to Hawkins. Despite the years that have passed since Will's journey to the Upside Down, time there is stuck to the day Will was taken. All of these little details are pointing towards Will's connection to the Upside Down being an important part in Stranger Things Season 5, as confirmed by the Duffer Brothers. All of this leads to internet theories that Season 5's ending might find Vecna's end in Will's death.
"Just as a complete hypothetical, if you kill Mike, it’s like. … That’s depressing. We aren’t Game of Thrones. This is Hawkins, it’s not Westeros. The show becomes not Stranger Things anymore, because you do have to treat it realistically, right?"
Nevertheless, the Duffer Brothers have been very vocal about their aim to not make Stranger Things depressing or like Game of Thrones, as they call it. So, there is still a very high chance that none of the main characters will die at the end of Stranger Things Season 5.
