Alien: Earth, the upcoming sci-fi horror series, just released its official trailer on 5th June 2025, which premieres on 12th August 2025, on FX and FX on Hulu. It’s part of the Alien franchise and takes place two years before the original 1979 film. The show is expected to expand the universe in exciting and terrifying new ways.

The YouTube description of the trailer describes Alien: Earth as,

When the mysterious deep space research vessel USCSS Maginot crash-lands on Earth, “Wendy” (Sydney Chandler) and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet’s greatest threat. FX’s Alien: Earth is created for television and executive produced by Noah Hawley.

Alien: Earth's trailer revealed terrifying new alien threats, including the return of the deadly Xenomorph. But this time, it’s not the only danger. There are new, hostile alien species and a never-before-seen type of synthetic life form.

What is Alien: Earth about?

The story begins when a strange spaceship crashes on Earth. What it carries is far more dangerous than anyone expects. Deadly alien creatures emerge, threatening the planet and everyone on it.

A team of tactical soldiers is sent to respond, and among them is Wendy, a human-synthetic hybrid. Unlike past synthetics in the Alien series, who often followed cold corporate orders, Wendy and her kind have human minds and emotions.

This shift adds a deeper layer to the story. These hybrids are not just tools; they think, feel, and make their own choices. They are central to the plot and will likely challenge the idea of what it means to be human.

The show will explore big questions like, should synthetic life be treated like machines or like people? Are they expendable, or do they deserve freedom and purpose? While the show answers these questions, it also explores the themes of survival, alien combat, and mystery. From the trailer, it’s clear that viewers will get to see dark corridors, terrifying monsters, and high-stakes tension, all on Earth, for the first time in the franchise.

With Noah Hawley as creator, fans can expect a blend of strong storytelling, compelling characters, and gripping horror. Each episode will be released weekly after the two-part premiere, building the story gradually.

The series stars Sydney Chandler as Wendy, a synthetic with a human mind. She’s joined by Timothy Olyphant, Alex Lawther, Samuel Blenkin, Essie Davis, and Adarsh Gourav. The cast plays a group of soldiers and hybrids sent to investigate a crashed alien vessel on Earth.

If August feels too far away, Apple TV+ offers a similar show that you can watch in the meantime. Murderbot, starring Alexander Skarsgård, is a sci-fi action series about a rogue android who breaks free from its programming. Though it calls itself Murderbot, the story is about connection, personal growth, and protecting humans.

Like Alien: Earth, the series explores artificial life, massive alien threats, and ethical dilemmas. It’s lighter in tone, with more humor, but still offers battle scenes and thought-provoking themes. Until Alien: Earth arrives, Murderbot is the perfect way to stay in the sci-fi world.

Alien: Earth is shaping up to be a thrilling series with cinematic visuals and a fresh take on the Alien universe. Its focus on synthetic life, their emotions, and terrifying creatures makes it a must-watch. And while the wait continues, Murderbot is a solid choice to keep the sci-fi spirit alive.

Alien: Earth arrives on 12th August 2025, on FX and FX on Hulu. New episodes of Murderbot come out on Apple TV+ on Fridays at 12 am PT and 3 am ET.
