Amber Rose Revah is a British actress best recognized for her film and television work, most notably now in The Sandman season 2, playing the goddess Ishtar. Ishtar in the show is an ancient Mesopotamian goddess of war, beauty, and love, closely tied to the brothers' and sisters' current search for their lost brother, Destruction.
Ishtar was a strong goddess who drew power from the devotion of believers. She appears as an ex-lover of Destruction and currently resides in a strip club in Philadelphia, where she performs to sustain her waning divine powers through contemporary forms of worship-like attention.
Her tale depicts the emotional and physical deterioration of ancient gods in the contemporary world. Ishtar's last performance is also shown as a ritual dance that reunites her with her lost powers, culminating in tragedy when a gas explosion causes her death and others in the club.
This character delves into forgotten religion, loss of purpose, and identity change. Through Ishtar, Revah provides a piece of The Sandman's larger story about how ancient gods live (or do not live) today. This is just another addition to Revah's increasing lineup of genre and fantasy TV roles.
