Outer Banks Season 4 introduces a new history lesson with its Blackbeard storyline. While the third season's adventure may conclude for the Outer Banks' teens with them discovering El Dorado, the lost city of gold, their next adventure seems afoot.

Season 3 concluded with the teens becoming hometown heroes, ending a 500-year-old mystery and discovering El Dorado. However, their treasure-hunting days are not over, as the final moments of the season hinted at the new adventure and the premise of Outer Banks Season 4.

At their commemorative ceremony in the finale, the Pogues are approached by an elderly man with a manuscript belonging to the infamous pirate Blackbeard. The manuscript holds the Captain's log of Blackbeard's ship until it was shipwrecked in 1718. His gold is believed to be lost, and the log contains crucial information about its whereabouts.

The pirate in question, Blackbeard, is based on an actual figure who was a much-feared pirate in English history. Let's take a short history lesson together and learn who the pirate from Outer Banks Season 4 is.

Who is Blackbeard from Outer Banks Season 4?

Edward Teach was nicknamed Blackbeard because of his fearsome appearance and thick black beard. He was an English pirate operating around the West Indies and the eastern coast of Britain's North American colonies. Although very little is known about his early years, he is assumed to be a sailor during Queen Anne's War.

In 1716, he joined Captain Benjamin Hornigold's crew. The two embarked on several piracy escapades and took control of many ships.

Teach captured a French slave ship and renamed it Queen Anne's Revenge. He equipped it with 40 guns and 300 men and continued some of the most important voyages of his life on it.

Madison Bailey, who plays Kiara on the show, remembers studying about Blackbeard in school in an interview with Tudum-

''It was a whole segment of our history class in eighth grade that we just were learning about pirates, and Blackbeard was a big deal.''

Blackbeard terrorized the coastal towns of the North Carolina shores. His ship went down in 1718 after hitting a sandbar. The state authorities confirmed finding debris from the ship in 2011 near Beaufort, about 200 miles south of the Outer Banks.

Blackbeard and his adventures will be an interesting call back to history for people who have grown up listening to his lore from their ancestors.

Outer Banks Season 4 is already out with its five episodes on Netflix. The rest will be available on November 7, 2024.
