Fans always anticipate Cha Eun-woo to choose unique roles in his projects. So, this drama is adding an intriguing twist by pairing the global heartthrob with an actress who plays a crazy, unpredictable heroine, who's all set to shake up everything around her.

The leading lady? Park Eun-bin, who is taking on the role of a spirited young woman whose chaotic nature turns her town upside down soon after she unexpectedly gains some very unusual superpowers.

So does that mean Chae Eun-woo's The WONDERfools is about a superhero story? Yes, this new series will not only be about the superpowers, but also focuses on eccentric neighbors and mysterious events, which is anything we’ve seen from either star before.

Keep reading to learn more about The WONDERfools and how the lead actors might just be the show’s biggest highlight.

Park Eun-bin steps in as the whirlwind heroine alongside Cha Eun-woo in The WONDERfools

In The WONDERfools, Park Eun-bin plays Eun Chae-ni, an impulsive and headstrong woman whose life takes an odd turn when an inexplicable incident ends up giving her and a couple of her neighbors stranger superpowers. Chae-ni is anything but an average character.

She’s the type of character who leaps before she looks, causes chaos without intending to, and constantly finds herself in absurd situations. Despite Chae-ni's messy personality, there’s something warm and deeply human about her, which makes her an instant fan favorite.

At the same time, Cha Eun-woo's character is completely different from hers. Fans who've been following the actor for a long time must remember how well Eun-woo acts when it comes to portraying a bit stiff on the outside but kind-hearted man from inside.

The True Beauty star takes on the role of Lee Woon-jung, a public official who’s transferred from the capital to the quiet town of Haeseong. He’s straight-laced, serious, and not used to dealing with the kind of unpredictable behavior that people like Chae-ni bring into his life.

As Woon-jung is pulled into the town's strange happenings and mysterious superpowers, he finds himself loosening up his rigid behaviour. This role is another step forward in Cha Eun-woo's acting career and an opportunity for him to show his comedic timing, as well as his emotional depth in scenes with Park Eun-bin.

The WONDERfools takes place in the fictional town of Haeseong during the late 1990s, right when fears about the end of the world (Y2K panic). Rather than a typical apocalypse story, the drama tells how the townspeople, including Chae-ni and her neighbors, get strange and imperfect powers that aren't always helpful.

The series is helmed by director Yoo In-shik, best known for Extraordinary Attorney Woo, while the script comes from Heo Da-joong of Extreme Job fame. As for the release date, The WONDERfools is expected to arrive on Netflix sometime in 2026.
