In recent months, Netflix has added a variety of shark shows to its platform, and All the Sharks is no exception. However, this is not just a random, boring shark documentary series that captures one person going off and exploring the ocean; rather, it has a fun twist.
All the Sharks features four teams of two members each who compete against each other. They are bound to visit various locations around the world where there is a dense and diverse shark population.
The task is simple. As soon as the divers see a shark, they have to capture its photo. The predatory fish needs to be easily identifiable in these pictures for it to be considered.
Each picture will earn them points. If the shark in that location is rare, the picture will earn higher points. However, if the shark is common in the area, the picture will earn fewer points.
By the end of the day, each team’s points will be tallied to determine who has won. The team with the most points will have a chance to donate fifty thousand dollars to a marine charity of their choice.
Here is what the teams look like on All the Sharks.
All the Sharks - Contestants and their teams
Team 1: Randy and Rosie
Randy is a wildlife biologist and has been fascinated by sharks since the age of three. As for Rosie, she is a biologist who specializes in apex predators. She says that even though they are scientists, they do not “fit the mold” of what this profession is supposed to look like.
Rosie likes to be an inspiration for little girls and wants them to know that it’s okay to “get dirty” and explore various creatures. Randy says his journey has been unique because he has been “the only Black guy” in most of his classes.
He was always questioned for his passion for sharks, as others labeled it as “white boy stuff.” However, Randy feels that this is something he loves and that it should not be associated with any race.
Team 2: Brendan and Chris
Chris is a marine biologist and the director of research for a non-profit called Ocean First Institute. Brendan is also a marine biologist and a fisheries ecologist. They have known each other for 10 years, and Chris quips that they can now showcase their “bromance” to the world.
Team 3: MJ and Aliah
MJ and Aliah met five years ago at a beach cleanup and have been best friends ever since. MJ has been a spearfisher and shark diver for years. Aliah is a marine biologist, and she specializes in stingrays.
Team 4: Dan and Sarah
Sarah is an environmental journalist and has worked with sharks in her career—and has even been bitten once. As for Dan, he has worked as an underwater cameraman with sharks for about ten years.
Fans can watch the episodes of All the Sharks on Netflix to find out which of these four teams wins the challenge.
