On July 28, 2025, Fox announced that Nick Cannon will host its forthcoming spin-off series Lego Masters Jr. The new program begins on Monday, August 18, 2025, and represents a substantial divergence from the main series structure.

Lego Masters Jr. follows child builders ages 9 to 17 as they participate in brick-building tasks with celebrity colleagues. The four-week special event series will be available on Hulu the day after each episode airs. This represents the first time the popular franchise has targeted younger demographics directly.

Cannon takes over hosting duties from Will Arnett, who has guided the original series through five successful seasons. The spin-off expands the Lego Masters universe while introducing audition-style episodes for the first time. Young contestants will face large-scale challenges designed to test creativity, teamwork, and technical building skills. Celebrity guests include Andy Richter, Jordin Sparks, Ravi Patel, Alison Sweeney, and Porsha Williams.

The show films at Legoland California Resort in Carlsbad, providing an immersive, themed environment. This expansion comes as Fox continues building its family-friendly programming lineup with proven formats.

Nick Cannon steps into the Lego Masters Jr. spotlight, in addition to format changes and celebrity partnerships

Cannon expressed genuine excitement about joining the Lego Masters family.

"I'm a huge fan of Lego Masters. It's an honor to join the series and host another show with my Fox family," he stated during the announcement.

The veteran host brings extensive experience working with younger audiences. His background includes hosting Nickelodeon’s Wild ’N Out and America’s Got Talent, making him well-suited for this demographic shift.

"Season six we're bringing an action-packed hour full of family fun, passion and for the first time ever, in-person audition episodes," Cannon explained.

His reference to season six connects the junior version to the broader franchise timeline. Cannon acknowledged the challenge of following Arnett’s successful run. He focused on his enthusiasm for witnessing the “insane creations” that young builders would produce during competition.

The junior edition introduces several format innovations beyond just younger contestants. Each participant pairs with a celebrity teammate, creating unique mentorship dynamics throughout the competition.

Celebrity guests bring diverse backgrounds to the building challenges. Andy Richter offers comedy experience, while Jordin Sparks provides musical creativity. Ravi Patel brings acting skills, Alison Sweeney contributes television hosting expertise, and Porsha Williams adds reality TV perspective.

Teams face challenges reflecting real-world storytelling, engineering concepts, and artistic expression. All builds must use only Lego bricks, maintaining the franchise’s core constraint while pushing creative boundaries. The audition-style format represents another first for Lego Masters Jr. Previous seasons began with pre-selected contestants, but this version incorporates the selection process into the viewing experience.

Arnett’s absence from both the junior series and the upcoming season six surprised longtime fans. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that scheduling conflicts led to his departure from the hosting role. Fox and Arnett reportedly reached an amicable agreement regarding the transition. The actor had been the franchise’s face since its U.S. debut, helping establish Lego building as primetime entertainment. Michael Thorn, Fox Entertainment President, addressed the change diplomatically.

"We're thrilled to bring LEGO Masters back for another season... Now enters an exciting next chapter with Nick Cannon at the helm," he stated.

The split allows Arnett to pursue other projects while enabling the franchise to explore new directions. His five-season run established the show’s foundation and family-friendly appeal.

What’s next for the franchise?

Lego Masters Jr. represents part of Fox’s broader strategy to expand successful formats. The original series has produced five seasons plus three Celebrity Holiday Bricktacular specials, proving the concept’s durability. The Legoland California setting provides authentic theming that enhances the viewing experience. Contestants compete in an environment specifically designed for Lego creativity and imagination.

Cash prizes reward winning teams, maintaining competitive stakes while emphasizing collaboration over individual achievement. Weekly eliminations create dramatic tension as teams race against time constraints. Season six of the original Lego Masters will continue with delayed scheduling. Audition episodes film later this month, with premiere dates planned for the 2025–2026 season.

The series creates opportunities for franchise growth into different age demographics. Success could lead to additional spin-offs targeting specific audience segments. Cannon’s hosting debut will determine whether the format can maintain its appeal with a new face. His energy and experience suggest strong potential for connecting with both young contestants and family audiences.

Lego Masters Jr. premieres Monday, August 18 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX, with new episodes streaming the next day on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.
