The competition took a dramatic turn in Yes, Chef! Episode 6, "Sweet Revenge," when chefs who had been eliminated returned to compete for a second shot. Two current participants, Christopher Morales and Ronny Miranda, were eliminated. High-stakes cook-offs against returning chefs Petrina Peart and Julia Chebotar caused this twist in their journey, as the returning chefs replaced them and re-entered the competition.

As part of the episode's challenge, each chef had to make a sweet meal, either a dessert or a savory dish with sweet components. Judges Martha Stewart and José Andrés evaluated the dishes in a blind tasting, which is a first for the series.

Both Julia's berry-stuffed crêpe and Petrina's fancy pastry dessert with berries and tonka bean crème anglaise were impressive. They had the opportunity to compete against current participants of Yes, Chef!, Ronny and Christopher, in head-to-head cook-offs.

Redemption and replacement: The high-stakes eliminations of Yes, Chef! Episode 6

Six contestants who had been eliminated returned to the Yes, Chef! kitchen in Episode 6, each hoping to redeem themselves in a high-stakes match. The current competitors had to compete to determine the bottom three, from which the returning contestants' winners could choose two to face off against.

Christopher served a dinner of steak and risotto during the elimination round. His risotto was undercooked. Ronny's honey marshmallow with caramel corn dessert was judged to be excessively sweet and dispersed. Both these dishes ended up earning them a spot at the bottom.

Returning chefs fall short in redemption bid

Julia Chebotar, Petrina Peart, Michelle Francis, Torrece "Chef T" Gregoire, and Peter Richardson were among the five chefs that returned for the redemption challenge in Yes, Chef! Everyone had one chance to demonstrate that they were worthy of another chance. The judges had even higher expectations, despite the obvious excitement. In contrast to their previous cook-offs, contestants were required to serve a meal where sweetness was the star.

The texture of the ricotta cheesecake that Michelle Francis made was really disappointing. It was undercooked and fell apart, leaving a bad impression on the judges of Yes, Chef! With her blue cheese and fig hand pie, which included a syringe of sauce for dramatic effect, Chef T took a riskier approach. Regretfully, Martha Stewart questioned the dish's flavor profile and thought the presentation was unsettling.

A lemon-strawberry tart was served by Peter Richardson, who had previously left because of an injury. Despite its excellent execution, it lacked the wow effect that would have convinced him to return. Only Julia and Petrina ultimately merited redemption.

Current contestants ousted by redemption rivals in Yes, Chef!

The stakes were equally high for the current contestants. Julia and Petrina, the redemption victors, had to compete against two chefs who could not solidify their place in the competition: Christopher Morales and Ronny Miranda. One plate would represent survival in sudden-death cook-offs, while the other would mean elimination.

When judges determined that the risotto was undercooked, Christopher's audacious decision to gamble with steak and risotto eventually sealed his doom. In contrast, Ronny's pan-seared ribeye with salsa and cauliflower puree lacked cohesiveness, and the ingredients did not work well together.

Both dishes were underwhelming and earned their creators a ticket home, leaving Julia and Petrina, the returning cooks, to take their places.
