Who did James Ransone play in The Wire?

James Ransone portrayed the role of Chester “Ziggy” Sabotka on the hit HBO crime drama series The Wire. Ziggy was the son of Frank Sobotka, who was the union secretary-treasurer. As a renowned member of the union, Frank oversaw the smuggling operations at the Baltimore ports. Ziggy was a dock worker at his father’s union. He also kept a side-hustle involving petty crimes from selling drugs to smuggling stolen cars.

James Ransone's Ziggy Sobotka started working on the street selling drugs, however seeing his peculiar character, the suppliers either duped him or kept their distance. He even tries to start his own drug network with his cousin Nick, who refuses to entertain his request, until Ziggy suggests stealing equipment from the docks. But the partners were always at loggerheads, thanks to Ziggy’s loud personality and reckless way of working.

Ziggy once again took to dealing drugs when he found another supplier. But he gets cheated by others and had to face a stringent punishment for not delivering the amount. Nick also steps in to help but Ziggy was in deep trouble with the drug supplier.

He often visited Delores’ bar and was infamous for drunken misconducts. He was ridiculed and looked down by everyone. His father knew of his son’s shortcomings and often found himself in conflict with Ziggy.

Smuggling stolen cards from the dock’s storage lot was another side-hustle. But the new venture goes for a toss when Glekas refuses to pay him, which infuriated him. He would shoot Glekas and injure another person. Post this, however, Ziggy is guilt-driven and gets charged. In the prison, Frank will express his regret for not helping his son, but Ziggy had always felt ignored by his father. Ziggy gets convicted for the murder and is sentenced.

Other than James Ransone, The Wire cast also includes Chris Bauer, Michael Kenneth Williams, Dominic West, Lance Reddick, Idris Elba, Wendell Pierce, Michael B. Jordan and Sonja Sohn.
