Apple TV's See has no shortage of memorable characters, but few are as dark as Jerlamarel.

Played by Joshua Henry, he's a man who can see in a world where blindness is the norm and he's determined to use that gift to shape and build the future. At first, Jerlamarel is shown and portrayed as a savior, the father of Maghra's sighted twins, Kofun and Haniwa.

Yet, as the show goes on, his image starts to fall apart, revealing a man who is only driven by ego and a hunger for power rather than the well-being of humanity.

From mystery figure to self-proclaimed visionary in See

Jerlamarel's journey begins long before we meet him. Born a slave, he clawed his way up to the royal palace, serving Queen Sibeth Kane not only as a footman but also as a lover. He revealed his sight to her, a rare and dangerous truth, before abandoning court life to pursue his own destiny, creating a kingdom ruled by the sighted.

His connection to Maghra brings him to the Alkenny village, where he leaves behind resources and knowledge to ensure the survival of his children and their community.

For most of the first season, Jerlamarel exists as a shadowy promise. Kofun and Haniwa grow up hearing of their father's special abilities, believing they are part of something extraordinary. The truth, however, is far more unsettling. When they finally reach his domain, the House of Enlightenment, they discover a man who sees himself not as a protector but as a ruler.

He has fathered many sighted children with different women, not out of love but as part of a grand plan to repopulate the world with people like him and place them above the blind majority.

Power, downfall, and the brutal end

The turning point comes when Jerlamarel's ambitions clash with the loyalty and values of his own children. His decision to trade Haniwa to the Trivantians and attempt to have Kofun killed strips away any illusion of him as a caring father.

This betrayal brings Baba Voss into direct conflict with Jerlamarel, leading to one of the most intense fights in the show. In a twist, Baba blinds Jerlamarel, forcing him to live in the very reality he once looked down upon and hated.

Season 2 of See shows him as a shell of his former self, with him being bitter, desperate, and unwilling to adapt. His blindness becomes his undoing, as his worth to allies like Edo Voss evaporates.

Eventually, Edo delivers the final blow, literally, beheading him and ending the reign and power of a man who believed himself to be chosen. What remains of Jerlamarel is now a tale of caution: In the world of See, vision is not the same as wisdom, and power without empathy is destined to fall.

Jerlamarel's arc in See is a slow burn that moves from mystery to revelation, from arrogance to ruin. He starts as a character of hope but soon turns into a warning about the dangers of self-importance and ambition that isn't in check.

In a story where sight is rare, Jerlamarel proves that true blindness can be moral, not physical, and that even the most gifted can lose their way.
