Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, one of the latest additions to the franchise is dropping on Disney Plus on December 3, 2024. The series is slated for eight episodes and will follow a weekly release schedule starting with the first two airing on the premiere day, and the finale on January 14, 2025.
Veteran actor Jude Law will be joining the Star Wars franchise as Jod Na Nawood as newly released images of him reveal. Law’s character Nawood will be playing a Jedi knight in the Star Wars: Skeleton Crew series.
This Jedi will be joining a band of children who are on a mission to travel back home across the galaxy after making a shocking discovery on their planet.
Well, danger has Nawood to fear since he’ll be a guardian and guide in their quest. Per images released exclusively by Entertainment Weekly, Nawood is revealed to be a rather unorthodox Jedi. Law’s character has a very different appearance in comparison to the Jedi of the past.
Usually, a Jedi would be dressed similar to how Yoda was - in long comfortable robes resembling a monk’s ensemble, a lightsaber secured on their waist. Law’s Jedi has a more modern pirate aesthetic.
From the images, Law is donning a long-sleeved leather jacket with what appears to be a loose-fitting silk shirt and baggy pants. Instead of a lightsaber, Law has a gun or a blaster fastened on his belt!
What kind of a Jedi is Jod Na Nawood from Star Wars: Skeleton Crew?
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, co-creators of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Jon Watts and Christopher Ford shared a vague inkling about Law’s character in the series.
Discussing a major advantage of working with the team at Lucasfilm, Ford gushes about Watts’s creative vision of the Jedi. He said,
“You feel like you can safely explore things creatively without making some huge canonical mistake.”
Furthermore, since Watts was mentored by the OG filmmaker of the Star Wars franchise, George Lucas, Ford claimed he understood the assignment about Nawood’s character. Ford mentioned,
“He gets that thing of ‘I want to make a whole new kind of a Jedi,’ and then someone being like, ‘Okay, hold on. A lot of people have thought about this. Let's do this the right way.’ And its so helpful.”
Ford's comment entails that while Nawood's ethos is based on the morals and skillset of a fully-fledged Jedi, the use of a blaster and perhaps other extremities about him will set him apart from the long list of renowned Jedi including the infamous Darth Vader himself.
What do we know about Jodi Na Nawood using blasters in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew?
Since several details are being kept strictly undisclosed, the extent of Nawood resorting to using his blaster remains unknown. Perhaps he possesses an iconic lightsaber or the blaster will be his primary weapon.
He will be up against some nasty villains, and using a more powerful long-range firing weapon would be ideal in moments of a pickle.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew isn’t the first time viewers will see a blaster in use. While the usual lightsaber is preferred, characters such as Luke Skywalker, Anakin, and Larran Tarak have used blasters as Jedi. A blaster is rather unconventional, but it’s both useful and effective in danger.
What has Jude Law said about his Jedi role in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew?
In an interview with People dated August 12, Law briefly discusses his Jedi role in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. Law highlights an intense situation faced by his character along with the four protagonists of the series; they’re all in “constant confusion, jeopardy, and challenge.”
Without giving away too much about his character, he said,
“The series is very much a piece about working together and overcoming fears and overcoming…perhaps one’s opinion of oneself or one’s own weakness in order to succeed.”
Lastly, Law also gushed about the wonderful time he had while filming the series and can’t wait for the fandom to indulge in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.
