ABC's Lost is a science fiction survival series through and through, but it still managed to sneak in many romantic relationships, including some high-stakes and dramatic love triangles.

Kate Austen (Evangeline Lilly), one of the primary characters in the show, was at the centre of one such love triangle, with Jack Shephard (Matthew Fox) and Sawyer Ford (Josh Holloway). While there is no denying that Kate had undeniable chemistry with Jack from their first scene together, she also shared a complicated relationship with bad boy Sawyer, who had feelings for her.

However, Jack's good nature and her need to leave her criminal past behind led to Kate developing feelings for Jack, and they also shared a sweet relationship in Lost. Despite her complicated relationship with Sawyer, the couple was reunited in Season 6, after they defeated the Man in Black.

While the couple died at different times, Kate finally ended up with Jack in Lost and was reunited with him in the afterlife. The couple did not have a normal relationship in the show's regular timeline, but their reunion in the afterlife symbolizes their undying love and connection to each other.

More on this in our story.

While Kate had two of the most volatile and exciting romantic relationships, fans are always wondering who Kate ended up with in Lost. This confusion is quite understandable, as she spent the majority of her time (in the show's regular timeline) surviving and later returned to the Island to find Claire.

After the eventful plane crash in Season 1, Kate immediately had a connection with Jack. While the couple had their fair share of troubles, including Kate's complicated relationship with Sawyer, they never had a normal relationship, even after they escaped the Island in Season 4. Their experiences on the Island changed their lives forever, and even after they started living a normal life with Claire's son, the couple could not sustain it and returned to the Island with different missions.

Even while Kate's feelings for Jack were quite strong, she could not ignore Sawyer's presence in her life. She even consummated her relationship with Sawyer twice, mainly to survive on the Island and rescue Jack from the Others. After being rescued and escaping the Island in Lost Season 4, Jack and Kate finally started a romantic relationship and were even engaged.

However, their pasts started to creep up on them, and they were filled with survivor's guilt. Jack, who couldn't let go of the guilt of escaping the Island and leaving the others behind, eventually fell into a spiral of alcohol and depression. After he confessed to Kate that he did not have a purpose off the Island, he returned to save the others.

Shortly after that, Kate also returned to the Island to reunite Aaron with her biological mother, Claire.

Jack and Kate both returned to the Island in Lost Season 4, but they were majorly separated and had different character arcs. While Jack finally found his purpose in life and struggled to rescue the other survivors, Kate went on a time-traveling trip to the 70's.

She joined the Man in Black in Season 6 but did not trust him. Kate and Jack were finally reunited on the Island in Lost Season 6, and together, they defeated the Man in Black for good, the primary antagonist of the show since Season 1. This win was one of the biggest defining moments in their relationship, following which they found their way back to each other. However, being the protector of the Island, Jack sacrificed himself and died in Season 6.

Following Jack's death, Kate escaped the Island with Sawyer, and this looked like the end for her relationship with him. But, much to fans' pleasure, Jack and Kate were always meant to be endgame, and she reunited with him in the “flash sideways” afterlife.
