The beginning of the mystery

The show keeps the question of who killed Madison in The Beast in Me a secret for almost all of the eight episodes. Nile Jarvis keeps up an appearance of innocence.

He acts charming and successful. He also seems very sad about his wife’s death. Aggie moves in next door after a difficult event in her own life. She starts to think Nile is guilty. She begins writing his life story to get close to him and is really looking for proof that he is a killer.

Madison's family stands by Nile at first. He gave them a believable story about a troubled wife who took her own life. Aggie, though, notices flaws in his carefully created image. Her strong desire to find the facts pulls her closer to danger. It also forces her to deal with her own past pain. The story of The Beast in Me ties Aggie's sadness together with Nile's violent actions.

The true killer revealed

The second-to-last episode finally shows the shocking answer. The show uses a quick look back at Madison's last days. The killer is Nile Jarvis himself.

Madison was not depressed or suicidal. She was actively working against her husband. Madison had been giving information about Nile’s bad business deals to the FBI. A young art worker named Nina, who worked for Madison, told Nile that his wife was betraying him. Nina did this to keep herself safe, but she did not want Madison to die.

As soon as Nile learned the truth, he faced Madison. The shouting match quickly turned into a physical fight. Nile pushed Madison to the floor. He then brutally murdered her. He used a heavy object to hit her head.

A frightening smile crossed Nile’s face during the killing. This proved he was cruel and violent. Nile then set up the scene to make it look like Madison had killed herself. The entire plot of The Beast in Me centers on hiding this crime.

Getting justice

Bringing Nile to court is a tough job for Aggie. Nile is always one step ahead. He even manages to blame Aggie for the disappearance and death of Teddy Fenig. Teddy was the young man involved in the accident that killed Aggie’s son. The Beast in Me quickly becomes a serious matter for Aggie.

Aggie realizes she cannot do this alone. She goes to Nina, Nile’s new wife. Nina first hesitates. She wants to keep her career and safety. She soon finds out she is pregnant, and her fear and good sense change her mind. Aggie gives Nina the only strong evidence: the truth about Madison’s fake suicide note.

Nina then carries out a clever plan. She talks Nile into confessing to both Madison's and Teddy's murders. She secretly records everything he says. After the confession, Nina tells Nile to look at his phone. Police cars quickly surround him. He was publicly arrested at a press conference.

This brings a satisfying end to Nile’s power in The Beast in Me. The final scene tells viewers that Nile was later killed in prison by other prisoners. This killing was planned by his uncle, who wanted revenge for Nile, causing his own father's death.

Aggie finds peace

The ending of The Beast in Me gives Aggie relief from her pain. Nile’s actions made her finally accept her own fault in her son's death. She realized she was not paying attention while driving. This new view helps her finish her book about Nile Jarvis. She reads a section at a book party.

Aggie explains that darkness can live inside anyone. Her ex-wife, Shelley, is there to support her. The two feel good for each other, closing the book on Aggie’s difficult personal story.
