Rowan killed Morris Mackey in The Rookie

The manner in which Rowan handled Morris’s murder in The Rookie truly shows how human desire makes people do terrible things. Growing up in a poor family, Rowan always wanted to do something big. He had big ambitions. After joining college, he came across Aaron. Initially, he misjudged Aaron. He thought they were snobbish because of Aaron's expensive lifestyle.

However, he soon understood that Aaron was a great friend. The two of them grew closer with the passing time. Soon, Aaron started taking Rowan on his private jet on holidays. What started as harmless retreats soon turned into something darker. It is revealed that, though Aaron believed Rowan to be his friend, Rowan had ulterior motives.

He used the private jet that Aaron used to smuggle drugs. After smuggling drugs, he began to achieve a luxurious lifestyle. All of a sudden, Patrick finds out about Rowan’s schemes. He threatens Rowan about telling the truth to Aaron. However, instead of coming clean about his mistakes, Rowan takes the dark path. He kills Patrick and then puts the blame on Aaron. Aaron and Patrick stayed together, and he was the only one present at the crime scene.

For the murder of Patrick, Aaron was wrongly incarcerated. Rowan was a free man. However, the case began to get complicated when Rowan killed Morris Mackey, a TV producer. Morris’s Mackey’s murder begins the investigation once again when links with Patrick’s murder are found.

It is soon revealed that Rowan is the one who killed Morris as well. The motive behind murdering Morris was to keep him quiet. Morris understood Rowan’s involvement in Patrick’s murder. So, to prevent getting caught, he chose to kill him.

Rowan’s involvement in the murder of Morris was first understood by Lucy Chen. When Lucy noticed the life that Rowan had, it raised some doubts. Rowan’s family was struggling economically; however, it was not the case for Rowan. It is then understood that Rowan used the jet to smuggle the drugs, through which he was able to achieve the expensive lifestyle.

Chen connected the dots easily and eventually understood the situation. On the other hand, Aaron, despite being innocent, was jailed for a year. He received bail, after which he sued the police department. Despite not being involved in the case in any way, Aaron fell victim to Rowan’s plans.

Rowan masterfully created a situation where blaming Aaron as the criminal would be easy. Though he had plotted the whole scenario, in the end, he was caught. After Patrick and Morris’s murderer is caught, Dexter Hayes solves the conflict he had with Aaron.

In the end, The Rookie once again brings out the essence of a thrilling police procedural. The storytelling in this case of The Rookie truly depicts the talent of the creators and the cast as well.
