Malcolm Grant in the Outlander book series

Outlander: Blood of My Blood is based on the characters by Diana Gabaldon and in them, Malcolm is the chieftain of Clan Grant and is a rejected suitor of Ellen. When his wish to marry Ellen is turned down, he does not ally with Clan MacKenzie anymore.Like the show, Dougal and Colum want to get Ellen married to Malcolm, even though their father, the deceased Red Jacob did not want such a thing to happen.
Further, fans of the books have noted that during the 1716 Gathering at Castle Leoch, Ellen was rude towards Malcolm and he left the event without saying a word. Ellen also eloped with Brian and hid from the others. Ellen only came out of hiding after she was heavily pregnant and had to be married to Brian otherwise there would be social stigma.
In the trailer of Outlander: Blood of My Blood, Ellen and Malcolm are partaking in a ceremony that looks like a wedding. Therefore, the show could diverge from the books.
The show is available on Starz.
