The Bear, FX's Emmy-winning dramedy series starring Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri, dropped its fourth season on June 25, 2025. Since its release, Season 4 has garnered around an 82% critics' rating on Rotten Tomatoes as of writing, and a whopping 8.5 stars out of 10 on IMDb.

Even though the finale of The Bear Season 4 left the viewers divided over Carmy's sudden decision to quit the restaurant, the season brought closure to most characters and tied up the major storylines.

Out of the several characters who have made guest appearances in The Bear Season 4, one character that's quite underrated yet quietly impactful is that of Michelle Berzatto, played by Sarah Paulson. Sarah Paulson's character, Michelle, was introduced in The Bear Season 2 as the cousin of the Berzatto siblings. Even though she is described as fun and easygoing, she has the guts to face the members of her dysfunctional family. In Season 2, we also come to know that Michelle is in a relationship with Stevie (John Mulaney), who is not only amused by her chaotic family but also tries his best to gel with them.

In The Bear Season 4, Michelle Berzatto returns in Episode 7 during Richie's ex-wife Tiff's and Frank's wedding. In the chaotic wedding set-up, on one hand, we see Richie getting anxious, even as Carmy catches up with Tiff while Natalie braces herself for a run-in with her rival, Francie Fak.

We also see Stevie, Michelle's husband, as he brings some calm to the chaos, cracking jokes and helping people in between the family drama. Michelle's return in Episode 7 is short yet meaningful. She doesn't get caught up in the chaos like the rest of the Berzattos. After a brief and awkward conversation with Donna, she shares a heartfelt moment with Tiff, comforting her about her big day and her mom being absent from it. Michelle's appearance doesn't steal the spotlight, but it does add a layer to the family's complex dynamics.

How did Sarah Paulson land a role in The Bear?

In a 2024 interview with IndieWire, the Emmy-winning actress Sarah Paulson opened up about how she landed a guest role in the series. She said that being a big fan of the series she reached out to the showrunner via Instagram after Season 1 dropped. She shared,

"I have to say, I was really intimidated. I had been a big fan, and I had written to Chris Storer via Instagram when the show first came out, just sort of pledging my undying allegiance to him and saying that I would do anything for him, any time he ever asked or wanted to."

She continued,

"And then I got an email from my agent months and months later, saying that they wanted me to come do something on ‘The Bear.’ I didn’t read it. I said, yes."

Paulson shared that she was grateful for the opportunity, and she was quite shocked by the success of her debut episode in Season 2, titled Fishes. She said,

"It was quite a thing to be a part of, and I certainly didn’t know that it was going to become this sort of seminal episode of the show. I didn’t know that that was gonna happen. I knew that the acting was insane that was happening around me, but I didn’t know that it was going be that episode.”
