More about Destruction, aka The Prodigal: The missing sibling of Sandman in Season 2
Destruction-also known as the Prodigal-was once the boisterous, red-headed fourth eldest of the Endless- a warm, creative soul who resembled his sister Delight. As a personification of destruction and creation, he wielded immense power over change and renewal.
However, after witnessing humankind's rapid embrace of destructive weapons-such as nuclear weapons, it shocked him to the core. This ultimately led to Destruction abandoning the realm and its duties centuries ago (three hundred years ago). He withdrew entirely and renounced contact with his siblings and chose a life of solitude and art.
In Netflix's The Sandman Season 2 Volume 1, Destruction (played by Barry Sloane) re-emerges as a soulful wanderer estranged from the cosmic family, setting up a poignant confrontation with Dream and Delirium-who believe he should intervene in mortal affairs. Here's what we know about the missing sibling of Sandman from the series.
In The Sandman Season 2 Episode 6, the long-lost sibling of Sandman finally steps into the light. Destruction, now living in self-imposed exile on an island beside Orpheus' temple, greets Dream and Delirium not with fury, but with peace.
We come to know that he has no intention of returning to the cosmic zone as he feels he's done being the harbinger of ruin. Instead, he leads a simple life-he paints, cooks, and chats with his sardonic talking dog, Barnabas. The reason for his retreat is clear: Destruction no longer believes the Endless should interfere in mortal lives, as he tells Dream that even though it was very difficult for him to leave, he continued.
"I left out of love, for humankind. For this world and all..Love is the only good reason to do anything."
His departure isn't cowardice-it's more of a moral conviction.
Barry Sloane, the popular actor who's appeared in multiple television shows, plays the missing sibling of Sandman- Destruction. Some of his notable projects include DCI Banks, Pleasureland, The Whispers, and House of the Dragon, to name a few.
