The fourteenth season of Chicago Fire sees the arrival of a new character in the department of Firehouse 51. Brandon Larracuente’s Sal Vasquez arrives as the newest firefighter; however, his arrival is not taken well by the other characters.

This is because he is replacing a crucial character with whom the bonding of the other characters is much stronger. In Chicago Fire Season 14, Sal Vasquez is replacing Sam Carver and is taking on the role of the driver of Truck 81.

Sal Vasquez replaces Sam Carver in Chicago Fire Season 14

In Chicago Fire Season 13, Sam Carver is going through a difficult time. He tries his best to keep his alcoholism under control. However, it does not work quite well for him. Fans were truly eager to see Sam and Violet Mikami’s relationship blossom. The two of them begin strong, but soon their relationship turns sour. They eventually part ways.

Reeling from the breakup, Sam makes the decision to leave Chicago. After he returns to his job, he is unable to work properly as he has developed a drinking habit. It began to affect his job. In turn, his situation was noticed by his colleagues as well.

Sam's situation was taking a dark turn when he decided to take matters into his own hands and become sober by choosing rehab. As he leaves for rehab, Sal Vasquez arrives as his replacement. Though in the very first moment of his arrival, Kidd reminds him that he has big shoes to fill, as Sam Carver was a great driver, and it is truly hard to be his replacement.

Though it must be noted, Sal might be a replacement for Sam in Chicago Fire, his personality is quite different from him. There is a distinct level of arrogance in Sal that reminds us of Damon. In the last season, we saw that due to his insubordination, Damon was fired. There is also a level of recklessness in Sal that we see in Chicago Fire Season 14, when he makes a rash decision without the order of Kidd.

Sal’s arrival is not taken well by Stella Kidd. Despite Sal showing his wit and ability by warning everyone about the difficult situation, she remained cautious. Vasquez finds it difficult to become acquainted with the others. Seeing his situation, Lizzie Novak tries to give him some comfort.

Lizzie was the new recruit before Sal; hence, she understood his situation. Soon, Stella finds out about Sal’s background and is not happy about it. She knows that he has a past of insubordination, which she understood right when he joined. She tried to speak about this issue to Pascal; however, Pascal told her that this job is his last hope to stay in CFD.

Though Sam Carver is a beloved character of Chicago Fire, it cannot be denied that Sal’s arrival has stirred things up in this new season. It will be intriguing to see how he navigates through the multitude of difficulties that are going to come his way.

Whether he will be able to tackle the situation or face trouble because of insubordination would be a delight to watch. Brandon Larracuente’s performance is already making quite the noise amongst the fandom. Previously, he played the main role in The Good Doctor. Along with it, he has also worked on projects like On Call, Party of Five, Bloodline, and many more.
