In the What If...? episode "What If... 1872?", we see a team-up between Shang Chi and Hawkeye (Kate Bishop). They are trying to catch The Hood, an outlaw who is abducting Chinese immigrants. Shang Chi wants to learn what happened to his sister Xu Xialing, while Kate wants to avenge her family's death. Shang Chi and Kate soon discover how The Hood has managed to evade them.

With the help of a young boy named Kwai Jun-Fan (one of the Iron Fists in the comics), they discover a high-tech train with the immigrants frozen in one place. The train halts at a place where The Hood is waiting; they and Shang Chi have a hand-to-hand combat in which The Hood initially has the edge as they use their hood's abilities, such as invisibility, flight, and phasing. Here's where the twist is revealed, though.

The shocking discovery being The Hood is none other than Xu Xialing, who had successfully defeated The Hood and stole his powers. She is about to kill her brother when Kate shoots Xu Xialing. As Xu Xialing is about to die, the hood comes off her and flies away, suggesting that it is a magical cloak with sentience. Perhaps it is an evil version of Cloak of Levitation.

In the comics, the identity of The Hood is different.

As stated before, his civilian identity is Parker Robbins. But an encounter with a Nisanti demon changed his life. He stole the demon's boots and hood. The hood or cloak can turn him invisible as long as he holds his breath (as shown in the episode), and the boots help him levitate. These magical artifacts catapult The Hood from Marvel as a prominent figure in the criminal underworld.

What is in store for The Hood after What If...?

The Hood from Marvel Comics will next appear on the Ironheart series after What If...? Dominique Thorne's character, Riri Williams, will be the subject of the six-episode miniseries, which will follow her life at MIT. It is set after she defeated the mutant Namor in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. As she attempts to stop The Hood, played by Anthony Ramos, she faces a new challenge in which technology clashes with magic.

Although not much is known about the Ironheart series, it is assumed by many that The Hood is the central antagonist of the show. Speculations are also rife that in this show The Hood gets his cloak and shoes from Mephisto himself. In the comics, Mephisto is the Satan who has a history with none other than Doctor Doom. It remains to be seen if Avengers: Doomsday will touch on their shared history.

Mephisto is very much a part of the MCU, as Episode 3 of Agatha All Along confirmed it. Fans speculate that he is played by none other than Sacha Baron Cohen.
