From intense political drama to commendable leadership, Kiefer Sutherland's Designated Survivor has it all. The series features Sutherland in the titular role of Tom Kirkman, a low-level government official who becomes the President of the United States after a terrorist attack eliminated the former President including many other official workers.
Following the tragic attack, Tom Kirkman was appointed as the new president since he was the designated survivor. His character growth from being a housing and urban development secretary to the most respected figure in the White House and incredible leadership impressed fans and viewers.
In the last episode of Designated Survivor Season 1, Tom Kirkman is convinced that the traitor is roaming freely in the White House and asks Aaron Shore to help him unveil his mask.
Following their plan, Agent Hannah Wells manages to escape a deadly situation and informs Tom Kirkman about a primary suspect named Patrick Lloyd.
Kirkman navigated through significant challenges including international threats as he was thrust into uncovering each conspirator involved in the explosion.
Throughout the series, Tom Kirkman discovers that the attack was initiated by a group of conspirators who wish to run the country with rules stated by their idols.
They succeed in finding Patrick, but he is too clever to be captured and escapes with the help of another man known as Nestor Lozano.
After Patrick escaped, he sent Lozano to hack the Pentagon's system by creating his employee ID. Nestor Lozano then disguised himself as a military man and leaked sensitive government information.
However, he soon met his end in a confrontation with Agent Wells, as she accidentally killed him. Wells then heads back to her office and opens an email about the White House traitor.
Agent Wells is shocked as the email from Jason Atwood reveals that the man they've been searching for is Mr. Whitetaker. Following Whitaker's arrest, Tom Kirkman presents a speech and reveals that Patrick Lloyd is the mastermind behind the attack, who now has access to the Pentagon's sensitive data.
Who was behind the capitol bombing in Designated Survivor?
Tom Kirkman and his team including Agent Wells and Aaron Shore were able to discover that the capitol bombing involved numerous conspirators. However, there only lies one mastermind behind the tragic attack, and he was Patrick Lloyd (played by Terry Serpico).
Patrick Lloyd cleverly crafted a plan along with other conspirators to plant a bomb in the building and eliminate almost every key official worker. But little did Patrick know about Kirkman's ability and great leadership, which would ultimately cause Patrick Lloyd's downfall.
Designated Survivor season one ended with a cliffhanger involving Patrick acquiring sensitive data regarding the US military. In season two, he's portrayed as the leading antagonist, who takes his enmity with Tom Kirkman to a personal level, posing threats to his family.
He even decides to release the deadly sarin gas in Washington, complicating the situation and making his capture a tough task for Kirkman and his officials. The series features legal troubles, emotional imbalance, and constant threats to civilians.
Did Tom Kirkman kill Patrick Llyod in Designated Survivor?
Patrick Lloyd's actions and threats intensified tensions, further complicating their plan to capture him without risking the lives of the civilians. Agent Wells failed to capture Llyod as he hid in a secure bunker.

The drone strike killed Patrick Lloyd, putting an end to his constant conspiracies to destroy the government. However, before his death, Lloyd leaked the sensitive information, leaving Tom Kirkman and Hannah Well with a new problem.
